Sandkit bowled over a small moss ball with relish, landing on her heels and batting it to Mousekit who joyfully leaped to catch it in his claws. Sandkit let out a soft purr, enjoying the peace, the simplicity of life. She chanced a glance to the nursery, and sure enough Lilykit was still sitting by herself in there; the optimistic kit spent a surprising amount of time alone. Perhaps life wasn't so simple for some.
With a heart full of kit-like determination, Sandkit set out to rectify this problem. The answer of course was simple, get Lilykit to play moss-ball. Surely a kit not yet of four moons couldn't have any problems unsolvable by moss-ball.
"Lily!" Sandkit called, padding into the nursery with tiny legs. "Lily, come play with us!"
"Coming!" Lily called back. She sounded happy already, problem solved.
From her corner, Lily sat up, tottering towards Sandkit with excitement written on her face. Excitement and happiness, because Lilykit was always happy, always positive. It was one of the things Sandkit admired most about her, that despite her half-orange half-black face, she was still able to be positive.
Sandkit wrinkled her nose as Lilykit walked over her somehow-shredded nest. Harepaw must have scratched it up again, Sandkit thought, holding in a growl at her distaste for the apprentice's cruel sense of 'humor'.
Once Lilykit was out of the nursery, Sandkit ran past, diving for the moss-ball as her brother waited nearby.
"Hey, Lily!" Mousekit greeted, meeting Lilykit halfway, "You gonna play too?"
"Yep!" Lily responded, running off the second after, "Race you there!"
As the two ran into the clearing, Sandkit got a firm hold on the moss-ball. Ready... With a heave, Sandkit tossed the moss-ball into the air, watching it soar gleefully through the air towards Lilykit. Uh-oh. Lilykit gave out a surprised meep as the moss-ball hit her squarely on the nose, knocking her over onto her back. Luckily, she got up laughing.
"I'm sorry, Lily," Sandkit apologised, feeling guilty for harming the joyful kit.
"It's okay," Lily assured, snatching up the ball of moss in her small paws, "take this!"
Out of the corner of Sandkit's eye, a long-legged kitten began to approach the trio, but she wasn't able to intercept it in time. A black and white apprentice knocked Lilykit aside with a nasty smirk.
"Out of the way, two-face."
Harepaw seized the ball, tossing it in the air to himself again and again. Angry, Sandkit beckoned her brown-furred brother towards her.
"Let's go play somewhere else," Sandkit whispered into Mousekit's ear.
Mousekit silently nodded in agreement, already looking around the camp for a better play area. Maybe that spot beside the warrior's den. Sandkit glanced at Mousekit to see if he was looking at the same spot.
"Ack! Get off me!"
Sandkit's attention was drawn to Harepaw, who seemed to be getting up from a surprise attack from... Lilykit?
"L-Lily?" Sandkit stammered, her brain unable to comprehend what she was seeing. Sweet, kind, forgiving Lily...
"My name isn't Lilykit!" Lilykit yowled, snapping her head towards Sandkit with a snarl that never should have marred Lily's kind, split face.
"I am Lionkit."
