Linger
Sweetpea closed her eyes, letting her world fade to blank canvas. The fading greenery outside the bus had left it's impressions on the back of her lids, and she let the colours dilate against her pupils, allowing her thoughts to drift. What came to mind was not what she expected. At least, not so quickly.
Babydoll faced her, blond pigtails bouncing away with the floating wind. She was wearing her signature sad smile, her thick lashes framing her blond fringe, hands clasping what Sweetpea made out to be a gun, a blue schoolgirl outfit playing with her small frame. Slowly, Babydoll advanced toward her, hips swaying slightly with a rhythm she could only guess over, and Sweetpea let out a choked sob.
"Hey," Babydoll whispered, holding her in her arms, "Are you not home yet? Why would you be thinking of me when you're almost there?" The soothing, soft voice of the little girl gently rocked Sweetpea to a tenderness she'd long forgotten.
"I'm sorry for leaving you behind. We could've both gotten out of there, together," Sweetpea added, and Babydoll chuckled, a tinkling sound in the slight breeze around them.
"Hm, and I suppose we could've too. But I wouldn't have gone, I deserved what happened to me, what's going to happen to me soon," Babydoll replied, and Sweetpea shuddered.
"What do you mean?" Babydoll smiled sadly again.
"I'm going somewhere else soon. Somewhere, where I'll meet my sister, and be with her, in this world. Somewhere, where I won't be able to return from," Babydoll crooned, and even in Sweetpea's ears, she sounded truly happy over it.
"But I won't be able to see you again, once I get back to my mum!" Sweetpea whimpered. "And I know you're the only one left-"
"That may be true, but in this world, I'm not alone anymore. I am strong, I can fight, and I'm not afraid. Blondie, Amber, Rocket, and my sister, we are all here, in my imagination. We fight in worlds only I can come up with, only I can dream of, and with each dance I do, with every breath I take, only I can do what my mind wants me to do. No-one controls me, and that's what I've always wanted," Babydoll nearly laughed at the absurdity of it. She hugged Sweetpea once more, and in return Sweetpea wondered, what if she had stayed behind.
Babydoll waved slightly, a welcoming smile turning into a sorrow-filled one of goodbye. She was about to turn, before she added-
"We'll go on ahead, and scout the area, before you come and join us. Promise us you'll stay safe until then, okay?" There was an unspoken sentence at the end of her voice, one she wouldn't say to her, but one she would speak into Sweetpea's mind whenever she would look down, afraid of what came next in her life. Live your life the way you've always wanted, and remember to fight for each and every day. She was turning into an angel, after all. One who would continue to look over her only living friend now.
Behind her, she heard Sweetpea yell that she would, and that she couldn't wait to see her again, to see all of them, to fight for everything they didn't in their past lives. Yeah, she couldn't wait. The light filtered around her, and she smiled.
And then, Babydoll heard the click! sound. The metal pick had already severed her ties with reality. Now she was ready to brace herself for her new world.
Paradise was waiting.
A/N: I hope you all get it, and if you don't please ask... about the click thing... I just watched the movie, and I cried at the end.
Still crying actually... I wanted Babydoll to live, 'cause I thought she was so sweet. I do wish, however, that Blondie and Amber had more of a say in the story... There wasn't much for me to go on when it came to them...
R&R, please!
