Nestling
Side by side, silent as the
night
Two souls lie together,
quiet, this time
Pretending the darkness
hides them away
From the fanged world outside.
His hand on a gun,
unsleeping, another nestling
in the child's dark hair.
He has gotten used, and
given in
to the child's (petulant)
voice asking
For just one thing: one
touch, one kiss
One intimacy, to love; all
of which
He shunned, in anger, in
fear,
with stubborn determination.
He lost.
One day (just as before)
he knows
The child will fly away.
