November
No way November will see our goodbye.
Leaves had all fallen from their trees at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry; students had begun to pull on their winter coats. Couples found their ways around the castle; the birds flew wing to wing to the south, little rodents burrowed beneath the ground together, and students gravitated to each other to feel warm again.
Bridie n' George n' Fred found their nitch in the winter. Each found the cold easier to bear with two other bodies constantly around them.
Their fourth year rolled around, and winter came as it always did. Necessity found and Fred and his girlfriend Angelina in the same chair most nights, warming themselves by a Gryffindor fire.
George caught up with Bridie in the hallways, but she always tried to move closer. They kept together, wishing for the end of another fruitless November.
December
When it comes to December, it's obvious why…
Snow always came this month; along with a stillness absolute. Angelina and Fred giggled more often than normal, sneaking off to places they thought George and Bridie wouldn't know about.
The girls in Ravenclaw's dorms tittered endlessly like birds. Birds that longed to find someone to nestle into a straw home with - someone with matching colors and someone willing to lift a wing over them.
Enter Bridie, stage right - cheeks shaded pink with the cold and blue everywhere else. Enter George- center stage. Constant pirouettes around each other. Looping looping looping. Often they'll get close only to leap away.
Enter Christmas.
No one wants to be alone at Christmas time…
"My common room or yours?"
"Yours. Warmer."
"Angelina?"
A shrug ,"And Fred?"
"With Angelina."
"We ought to stick together."
Yeah, that'd be nice.
Lying on the red couch with a pale hand running through his hair, he felt his eyes close.
We'll go back outside soon, he says. When it snows again. Take a walk outside.
She nods solemnly and cradles his head in her hands.
January
Come January, we're frozen inside, making new resolutions a hundred times.
"I don't know about wizards, but in the Muggle world we make resolutions on New Years," Bridie mentioned one night as snow fell over Hogwarts once again.
Ravenclaw tower became filled to the brim with their resolutions, touching the lofty ceiling and spilling over the floor. Words that may never be fulfilled - they jammed every resolution they could think of into the room and smiled. He took her hand once and played with her fingers. The open spaces between them were the perfect place to store a hope or too.
February
Won't you be my Valentine?
March
If our always was all that we gave and if we someday take that away... I'll be alright
You know, winter was over. St. Patrick's Day, for Celtic Bridie, was a thawing day. Shake the rest from your eyes, the snow from your coat.
They should really start to only be friends again, but neither can do anything but feel. Feel everything.
If next year the other wasn't there; if someone someday took that away… both were sure they'd be alright. If it was just after St. Patrick's day.
