Protecting the One I Love
I've changed to my bird form again, this time to protect what I treasure, not myself. The bombs are being dropped, Suliman's people are after me, and I'm not sure how much farther I can go before I drop down to the sky. Then I see her face and I feel the adrenaline pump through my veins, I have to keep going, I have to protect her.
As soon as I loose Suliman's army, another round of bombs are dropped, this time towards my home. I see her stepping outside and I'm angry, 'what the hell is she doing outside?' The bomb approaches her fast; my heart races and I dive down, hoping to stop that bomb. Other bombs drop around us and I've managed to slow down the one aimed directly at her. The impact causes her to crash against the wall and my heart lurches painfully, 'if only I had been there sooner.'
She lifts her head and sees me. She rushes towards me whispering my name and I know that everything that I've worked so hard for tonight is worth it, just to hear her say my name. She hugs me and I wrap my arms around her, letting her scent surround me, calm me. I apologize for not getting there sooner but she just hugs me tighter. I bring my wings around her, protecting her from Suliman's spies. When we enter the house I bring her to Calcifer and gently puts her down, I tell her that I have to go, when I reach the doorknob she's hugging my waist, telling me not to go, that we should run away again. I turn around and tell her that I've finally found someone to protect, her. Her eyes are big and I have a sudden urge to kiss her, but I can't, not yet, not when there's another round of bombs dropping. I smile kindly at her and show her all my emotions, my love, my trust, my worry… all for her, and then I'm out the door.
To protect the one I love.
