Stephanie McMahon threw the transparent folder in her hand on the desk and sighed. It had been a long day with meetings over promotions for upcoming pay per views as well as Raw and Smackdown's programming run through.
She rested her feet, a little unglamourous on her own liking on her heavy oak desk and leaned against her chair. Her brown eyes fell on the calendar. Friday.
Or according to what Maryse had texted her this morning: Thank God it's Friday or TGIF.
Stephanie didn't know why people always went on about that acronym. What was the big deal about Fridays? She had a family to take care of and a company to represent. She had no time for fun.
Being a woman in a corporation like WWE wasn't easy and it was doubly hard because she was the daughter of Vince McMahon, therefore being judged unfairly so against a standard that was set so high that some days she questioned why she chose to do this.
But she had things to prove and she was dead set on achieving those things. And when she did, she'd relish and gloat in the face of those who thought she could not overcome those adversities.
There was a knock on the door and Maryse's head poked through. "Is the coast clear?" she asked, her French accent evidently rolling off her tongue.
Stephanie nodded. "You can come in."
"So the girls and I know you're a very busy woman-"
"You talk about me?"
"Well, we were worried and noticed that these days, you barely have time to yourself. You skipped lunch quite a few times and… I digress. We want to take you out for a break."
Stephanie laughed. "A break?"
"Yeah and we have the perfect place to go. Florida!"
"Why would I want to go to Florida when I have to go home and make sure the girls have finished their homeworks and see if Aurora's costume for the school play has been-"
"We've asked Hunter and he was all for you taking this."
This was not surprising to her because all her husband had been doing lately was pushing her to get some well deserved rest. But it was difficult for her to let go of the reins of her department.
Just like my father, she thought wryly.
"Well, what do you say?" Maryse said.
"I'm not sure, Maryse. Who else is going on this trip?"
"Well, Lana, Summer, Nikki, Brie, Eva, Carmella, Alex, Dana and Emma will be tagging along too," she replied before adding in quickly, "It's just for the weekend. We'll be back in time for Raw and Smackdown."
"I still think I need to settle some more-"
"Come on, Stephanie. I'm begging you here. Plus, Hunter is okay with this. Surely it's okay with you too."
But it wasn't okay.
When she came home, the girls had already been sent to bed by her mother, Linda and Hunter was eating some pasta near the kitchen island. "Hey," he greeted her with a kiss. "How was your day?"
"Maryse wants me to be at the airport by eight tomorrow morning."
Hunter chuckled as he played around with his mushroom. "Oh that. Yes. She asked me if it was okay for them to whisk you off to Florida and I agreed. You work too hard, babe and you need a rest. Go out, recharge yourself and come back ready to go again."
She pouted. "But I have so much on my desk and-"
"Nothing that can't wait. It'll be fine. I insist."
She took a seat beside him. "Are you sure?"
"I'm positive."
"Okay but it was your call."
"Yes it was and challenge anyone to tell me otherwise."
She leaned in for a kiss again. "You're the best."
"Anything for my billion dollar princess. Besides, what's the worst that can happen on this vacation? All of you being arrested?"
A/N I know that this chapter is short but it'll get longer as the story progresses along. Thank you.
