He missed him. No matter how hard he tried to not miss him, he couldn't. Bobby Drake missed his best friend John Allerdyce. They have been friends for years, both coming to school knowing no one, scared, and not knowing what to expect. They had an instant connection and for some reason they clicked, on all levels, and instantly became friends, no not friends, brothers.

Every night they would sneak into the kitchen and eat ice cream and talk. Talk about anything and everything from girls, to the jet that came out of the basketball court. Yes it may sound childish or girly, but they needed it. They needed it because it kept them close and it kept them grounded with everything happening around them. They weren't stupid they knew a war was coming and they knew they would be forced to pick sides, and they knew deep down that they would be on opposite sides. That's why every night they would meet in the kitchen and talk, or on some nights just eat and be comfortable with just being with each other. But no matter what John always had his lighter and bobby could always count on the click-swoosh-click no matter what.

When John left it hurt bobby, more then he would let people know, but it hurt. He walked around with a smile on his face, acting like everything was fine, but he knew it wasn't. He knew as soon as John walked off that plane that he lost him, lost his friend, lost his brother, lost a part of his heart forever. Never again would they laugh together, tell jokes together, fight, talk about girls, anything, ever again. Because no matter what things would be different, they always knew it was coming, always knew that one day they would be fighting on opposite teams, but it still hurt. And even though Bobby knew his friend was never coming back, every night he would go downstairs, take a tub of ice cream from the freezer, and grab two spoons from the drawer. One spoon was placed next to the ice cream waiting, begging to be used but never was. And that's what Bobby did every night, waited for someone who would never come, longing to hear the wonderful music that is click-swoosh-click. But it never came, and it never will for there will never be a John and Bobby ever again, they were too far from where they began and they can never get back... and that's what hurts the most.
