Broken Destiny

Misty was sleeping soundly, dreaming of chasing mice through vast fields, jumping after rabbits on the open moor, stalking through dense woodland in search of frogs and lizards, when a sickening image awakened her; Cats strewn across a bloody landscape, blood pouring out deep gashes in their throats. Perhaps the life of a warrior isn't for me… But I want it so much… I'll have a limit on my time to think soon… When I meet him in the forest. She had been meeting a warrior of Blazeclan, The clan of warriors she had been considering the possibility of which to join for about half a moon. If I joined with kittypet life still fresh in my mind, I would leave as soon as I hit the territory. But if I run away now, I can touch the true cat in me, and join with true warrior instincts. My mother will be so proud! She started for the door, thinking good thoughts about herself, and the life she would have in a quarter moon…

Clovepaw stalked silently after the small mouse before him. Standing upwind, he had the advantage of time on his side. He widened his eyes to light the area the mouse was standing on, a Blazeclan hunting tactic. Clovepaw suddenly got the feeling he was being watched. He whirled around, scaring the mouse away. No one was there. As he turned around, He got the feeling again, this time much stronger.

"Misty? Is that you?" He yowled into the dense pine forest. No answer. "Misty?" He called again. This time, a cuff on the ear greeted him playfully. "Oceanpaw! I thought I told you not to sneak up on me like that!"

Licking a paw, the beautiful blue-gray she cat acknowledged with a flick of her ear. Her silver stripes gleamed in the golden light of dawn. She grinned.

"I know." His sister finally replied, after what seemed like a lifetime of silence, and grooming. "Clovepaw, who's Misty? You come out here every day at dawn to hunt and end up calling to her instead." She brushed up against him affectionately. "I'm just worried for you. Worried you won't grow up the warrior Mom would have wanted you to be."

Tears glinted in the sun, blurring his vision. "I-I didn't realize you felt that way. Sorry, Oceanpaw." He paused, thinking of something comforting to say to her about their tragically killed mother. "No matter what, Oceanpaw, I promise that Misty will never get in the way of my training. I promise I will be even more than the warrior mom would want me to be. I'll train as hard as any cat to become the best warrior I can be." He nuzzled her. "as long as you will too."

"I promise" she bit back more tears as she picked up the slight challenge in his last sentence. I promise? HA! He thought he'd pluck me away from Glyphpaw like a bird from the sky? Fat chance! She knew she had to get to the bottom of this… Misty, and fast.
