Haymitch (The First Book)
I know that this is kind of a common FanFic, but I just wanted to see how well I could write it…Reviews appreciated!
I take another swig. It tastes good, or should I say feels good. Katniss and Peeta stare at me disapprovingly and I just shake my head at them, bringing the glass to my lips again. They can judge all they want, but if they ever get out of this situation they'll be doing the same thing. The chances of that are slimmer than slim, though. I won because I outsmarted them and boy did the Capitol remind me of that, but these two didn't look too bright. The blonde boy was a strong looking fellow, but there were going to be plenty of other strong people with much more training than him In the arena. The girl with the braid, Katniss, was going to be viewed as weak because of what she did for her sister. She looked mad though. She always looked mad.
"Hey, brighten up you two! You're going to be big stars! Why no smiles?" I said, partially sarcastic and partially drunk. The train rumbled and for the first time on the train ride they didn't fall or stumble. Peeta looked mad, though, and suddenly he lunged close to my face.
"You're our mentor and you know that that's not what we're worried about so please, just give us some advice!" He shouted. I thought hard for a second, and then punched him square in the jaw. He fell backwards and I reached for another drink, satisfied. Katniss then went after me though, slamming her knife down hard in the table between my hand and the drink. "Well what would you know? This one snarls and this one bites," I said motioning to the two of them. "Well, if you can use that I the arena then maybe you two do have a chance…Although pretty boy over here's going to have to get something real to fight with besides his words. Because lemme tell you…In the Arena they won't wait around and listen for too long. How's your aim with that knife?"
She didn't say anything and instead threw the dagger effortlessly, lodging it in between the seam of two walls.
"Not bad. I'll bet that you're a hunter…"
Effie laughed, her voice nearly a squeal. "Oh Haymitch! How silly! The Districts aren't allowed to hunt…"
I nodded my head. "Of course…" Turning slowly to Katniss I gave a wink and got up. "I think I'll retire to my room for tonight. Don't mess with me or my drinks and I might be able help you out. Good night."
I walked away, leaving Peeta nodding his head to no one in particular.
