Zoë tore herself away from watching over the Hunters of Artemis when she heard the sound of a familiar voice calling her name.
The voice was weakened, but she could recognize the gentle baritone of her grandfather's voice anywhere. Her eyes searched for him across the earth, but she could not see him.
"Where are you?" she called, scouring the terrain for the titan who had all but raised her and her sisters.
When he next spoke, weaker still, she could feel the sorrow in his voice. "I am where the sun will never shine and the stars will never gleam. No matter how you may search, you will not see me, for I am in the land of no return."
Zoë gasped at his implications, panic flooding her. "Somebody can save you, look for Damascene the giant! He should be-"
"Dear one, I am afraid he fights alongside me." His tone hardened like magma under pressure. "We will perish, that is fact. The two of us cannot stop an army alone. All I ask of you, precious one, is that you find a demigod named Percy Jackson, and tell me that he is safe, then I will not die in vain."
Tears sprung up in the corners of Zoë's eyes and she bit back a noise that was somewhere between a laugh and a sob. She turned her gaze to the demigod she had fought alongside only a few years ago, and saw him, skeletal and battered, but still very much alive as he stood on the deck of a bronze ship.
"He is alive," Zoë told her grandfather gently, still watching Percy.
She was about to turn away from the hero when he startled her.
His voice was hesitant and weary, but still the same as she remembered. "Hey, um, Zoë, and all of the other constellations, I guess. Today, a very brave titan named Iapetus, no, wait, his name is Bob, he went against his brothers and against Tartarus just so Annabeth and I could escape and close the Doors of Death."
Zoë leaned closer to listen to the demigod, surprised to hear that he and the girl had both made it through Tartarus.
Percy looked ashamed as he continued. "I had called him my friend, but I failed him. I cost him everything, and sometimes I don't even know if I'm on the right side. Am I really a hero, or am I just as bad as everyone else?" Percy heaved a great sigh, and then coughed at the exertion. "Bob was one of the best friends I could ever ask for, and he deserved better than the likes of me. The reason I'm talking to you is because I want to do something in return."
Percy shifted, suddenly seeming to feel Zoë's gaze. "I don't know if you can reach him in Tartarus, but if it's possible, could you let him see the stars one more time while he is still Bob? Before he is reborn?"
Zoë couldn't stop her tears any longer. She nodded, and then remembered that she lacked a corporeal form. To get Percy's attention, she made the stars of her constellation flare briefly.
Percy gave her constellation a broken grin. "Thank you," he whispered. "And one last thing; Bob says hello."
