Embry has always been there for Jacob.
Jacob was just too blinded by Bella to see his best friend there.
But now he sees him clearer than he ever has.
Now, Jacob can hear Embry's normally quiet voice as well as if he is shouting.
"You know why I never imprinted, Jacob?" Embry asks him. "It's because I always knew that you were my soul mate, whether I imprinted on you or not."
That's when it all clicks into place. Jacob's best friend for as long as he can remember is his soul mate.
They don't need imprinting to know that.
They just need each other.
