"Did your snout know anything?" Sandra asked Gerry as he came off of the phone.
"No, nothing." Gerry sighed, this hadn't been their normal open close case and it was one they'd usually have given up on by now. For some reason though Sandra seemed determined not to give this one up.
"We need to know what name he was using when he snatched poor Ava and see if it's likely to be a name that he's still hiding under."
Child cases were always the worst, they took the most time and resources but also led to plenty of officers resigning because they couldn't handle it. Ava Jones was snatched when she was two and a half and it was only recently that DNA meant that they knew who had her or who had had her, the only problem was that he was using a fake name.
"There isn't another way Sandra, it's time we wrapped this one up." Gerry said sadly; feeling as if he was letting a child in need down. She thought for a moment.
"Oh yes there is!" Sandra said as she sprung into action. "Have you met George Moon's friends?"
"No why?"
"Neither have I, why don't we pretend we're interested in their gang, earn their trust and find out what we need that way."
"Sandra it'd never work anyway we have to run anything related to their gang by drugs squad."
"We don't have time and they'd never agree to it, while there's a chance Ava's alive we have to try everything. Come on." Sandra said as she threw Gerry her bag and got back into the car.
"What about Jack and Brian?" Gerry asked knowing that his colleagues were both out on enquiries still.
"Text Jack and tell them what's going on then turn your phone off." Sandra said as they drove to the pub that they'd established was the gang's local.
"Right we'll have a drink and sit as close to them as possible, first we'll listen in and then if there's no hint that we're getting anything from listening then we'll interrupt and say something sounded interesting and that you couldn't help overhearing and then ask questions." Sandra told him having working a plan out in her head while driving.
"It won't work but go on then."
