Author's note: I've been obsessed with the song Bright by Echosmith lately and I couldn't help but think of this movie whenever listening to it. So this is just something quick I came up with to follow the lyrics. I guess it takes place after they leave the Caspartine but before they confess their feelings to each other.
Disclaimer: I do not own Stardust or any of its characters. The song, Bright, belongs to Echosmith.
Yvaine stared up at the night sky, unable to sleep. She watched as her sisters glistened in the distance, longing shooting up her spine. Did they miss her at all? Could they see her laying upon grass in a world too human for her? One of the twinkling lights abruptly dashed across the sky and she suddenly felt sorry for it. At least she was done falling; no risk or fear of that anymore. She looked over to Tristan, laying a few feet away, to find him staring up at the sky as well.
Did you see that shooting star tonight?
She felt her mouth open, but found no words to say. Her eyes flitted back up towards the stars and focused on a bundle of lights. From below she could not identify the constellation, yet still she could not help but marvel at their array. Once again Yvaine turned her head to look at Tristan. His eyes had not moved from the stars. From her angle she swore a look of wonder graced his features.
Were you dazzled by the same constellation?
"Tristan?" At last her voice found her. The boy turned at the sound of it. He looked at Yvaine questioningly. She wanted to ask him about the universe and what he imagined it to be. For she had seen it all, and she was curious at the human mind. And if she could just spark his mind to wonder – so his eyes would glisten in amazement and he'd smile just for her – then crashing upon the earth may have been worth it.
"What is it?" he asked. But Yvaine could not speak these words for him; stars were not meant to speak love and admiration in the way humans were. She sighed and looked away, her gaze returning to the sky.
"Do you think they miss me?" she said quietly. Tristan sat up, resting on his elbows. He knew she missed the stars but rarely did she converse about it. Who wouldn't miss you, he wanted to say, for he knew he'd miss her if she were to leave. Embarrassed at the thought, he blushed. He stood up quickly, his back to Yvaine.
"I'm sure they miss you just as you miss them," he said. Yvaine glanced over at him just as he looked over his shoulder. "I'll be back soon." Without any more explanation he wandered away, leaving Yvaine feeling funny.
Tristan gazed up at the night sky as he walked, though his mind stayed on a star not in the sky. One of the thousands of lights, bigger than the rest, seemed to be focused only on him.
"Jupiter," he wondered aloud. It seemed to shine a little brighter in response.
"Help me then," he asked it. "She must know." The light dimmed a little. Tristan stopped walking and dropped to his knees, his eyes never leaving the sky. He put his hands together and shook them above his head.
"Please," he begged. "For her you must help me." He felt he must have looked insane but Yvaine it was worth it. All he needed was the courage and the right timing.
Did you and Jupiter conspire to get me?
Yvaine sat up and hugged her knees close to her chest. Her mind wandered back and forth between her sisters up above and the earth boy down below. Smiling at both thoughts, she began to glow.
I think you and the Moon and Neptune got it right cause now I'm shining bright.
As he approached Tristan could see the light beaming off of the star girl. His heart fluttered and he rejoined her in the grass. Tristan, too, felt as if he were shining, but he would wait to tell Yvaine. And Yvaine herself decided to let things be for the moment. But by the moon, the stars, Neptune, any celestial body, she would shine for Tristan.
