"Kite, Gon Killua," Morel addresses them, and they look up. "We found (name), but she's not the same as when you last saw her."

"It's fine, let us see her," Kite begs. "Please. I need to apologize."

They head down, and shoot lets his out of his Hotel Rafflessia. She materializes before them, "(name)?" Kite talks a hesitant step forward.

(name) aims a swift kick at his side, but he jumps out of the way. She looks at him with hollow eyes, "I serve Pitou-dono," her voice echoes. "to get to the king, one must defeat me."

"That's the enemy's ability, its controlling her," Morel says, as Kite looks at her with disbelief. "She's not (name)."

"(name), I know you're in there," Kite says. "It's me, kite." He steps closer, "please, try to remember me."

There's a slight change in her eyes, "Kite?"

"I'm sorry that I couldn't protect you," Kite says, sitting on his knees before her "it's my fault you're like this, just please come back to me."

(name)'s eyes soften, "Kite." He looks up at her, tears brimming his eyes, "please. Kill me."

Everyone has shocked looks on their faces, "(name) san?! Why?" Gon exclaims.

"I'm tired of fighting," she says with tears in her eyes, "please, I don't want this anymore. Kill me."

Kite gets up, and stands before her, "Kite don't do it!" Gon yells, before Killua puts a hand on his shoulder giving him a reassuring look.

"I'm so tired," she says, tears in her eyes. "I can't sleep anymore, I can't eat. I don't control my actions, and I want it be over."

"What the hell are you saying?!" Kite yells at her, "I know you. You're stronger than I could ever hope to be (name)!" She looks at him with surprise, "I promise I'll protect you next time, but please keep fighting this."

The nen puppet begins to jerk her around, as her eyes go hollow, "Kite get away from me," she says, tears shining. "She's back in control."

"Kill them," Pitou's voice echoes through her head. "Use your ability, and tell them to kill themselves."

"No, I don't want to hurt them," (name) struggles to not take out her knives. She feels two familiar arms wrap around her. (name) looks up, "Kite, no."

Kite coughs up blood, falling limp against her. (name) looks down and sees a knife in her hand pushing into Kite's side, covered into blood, "kill the rest."

"I don't want to kill them!" Her eyes darken, "kill yourself. Slit your throat." She hugs Kite's limp body as the nen puppet above her shatters, "Kite, I love you."

1 year later

Kite wraps his arm around (name), as they both stare into the fire together, "have I mention how much I love you?" He asks wrapping an arm around his new wife.

"You did at the wedding, and just an hour ago," she replies. "I still have nightmares you know. Of you almost dying in my arms."

"(Name), it didn't happen, so please stay in the present," he replies, pulling her closer to him. Kite places a hand on her cheek, before giving her a gentle kiss, "in fact you're the reason I'm alive today. I would have died at the hands of that ant if you weren't there."

"But if we weren't near a hospital, that stab wound would've killed you," she looks up at him, "I would've been responsible."

"No, you wouldn't. I would have," Kite says, looking into her eyes. "I'm sorry I didn't protect you the first time," he keeps his hand on her cheek, "I promise I'll protect you next time."

"She was too strong," she says, laying her head on his shoulder. "Killua and Gon were hurt, you could carry them. I bought you three time." (name) shifts, so she's sitting on his lap, and takes his face in her hands, "I'll protect you always."

"Likewise," Kite says, covering her hands with his, giving her a faint smile.

With that they share another kiss under the stars, leaving the events of the NGL behind them at last.
