Author's note: I do not own "Corpse Bride" or any of its characters. Constructive reviews are especially welcomed since this is my first piece.
Emily disappeared under the moonlight, transforming into hundreds of pale butterflies. They soared into the sky and quickly dispersed in the night. The newlywed Van Dorts looked far into the lit sky, and there was bittersweet sentiment in the air.
"Emily, Emily, Emily." Thought Victor, sad would be an unfitting word to describe his reaction to Emily's departure. Melancholy was a more accurate depiction. He was happy that there was finally a resolution to Emily's life. "You set me free. Now I can do the same for you." She said. So how did this emancipation create regret within Victor's mind? He thought about what could have happened if he had taken the "Wine of Ages" in time, and if Victoria had come to the church just several minutes late, he and Emily could have had a hell of a life together.
Temporarily, he blamed Lord Barkis for the mess in his mind.
That's right Barkis. I hope you are feeling pretty damn well of yourself, now that the corpses are literally going to tear you apart.
Victor tried to reason with himself. Of course it's Lord Barkis' fault; either give me a happy ending with Emily or I'd rather not have known her at all. You could have either made Emily or Victoria happy, and I would have given you a high-five and married the other.
Victor then compared his loss to watching a top-notch Shakespearean play but stopping in the middle for some reason and missing the ending. He could have run his train of thought for miles longer, but Victoria snapped him back into reality.
"We owe Emily."
"Yes, we do, but what's done is done." said Victor. He has made up his mind about the matter at hand. He knew there was zero percent chance of Emily coming back as long as Victoria and he were together, and he knew she knew. Thus he shoved his memories with Emily aside in an empty area in his brain, and decided that as long as he was with Victoria, he would not care about Emily, but if for some reason she didn't love him anymore, then he would set out and regain Emily's love.
