Crossover: Dresden Files/Supernatural

Characters: Harry, Dean, Sam, Murphy, Bob, OC psychic

Summary: Hunters: like wizards only without the rules.

Disclaimer: anything you recognise is someone elses.

Wizards aren't the only humans who know about the supernatural. People who find out about the magical and spiritual world from the wrong people often become hunters, who, as the name suggests, hunt all the things that go bump in the night a little too loudly. Not being magically gifted themselves, hunters are outside the remit of the High Council and so can do as they please as long as the police don't catch up to them. Usually they take out anything out of the ordinary they come across. Some have even been known to try and take out a wizard or two: these hunters have not lasted long.

For the most part though hunters and wizards stay out of each others way and everyone's happier for it.

"Sam, Dean, what are you guys doing here?"

"We're up here on a job and thought we'd drop by," Sam said cautiously.

"Yeah?" Harry asked, not buying Sam's innocent look: not when they were suddenly showing up after over two years. "Well you know you're always welcome, but aren't you supposed to be in Stanford? Taking a break to work a job for your old man?"

Sam looked away, burying his hands in his pockets as Dean cleared his throat.

"Dad died. About 9 months ago."

"I'm so sorry! Was it…?"

Dean's eyes went cold. "It was the demon."

The Winchester family had been looking for the demon that killed Mary since Dean and Sam were in diapers. That it had taken John as well…Harry knew what it was like to lose so many people close to you. At least they had each other.

Harry cleared his throat, changing the subject quickly. "So what brings you to Chicago?"

"Possible haunting," Sam spoke up, "a number of people all dying in the same house year after year with strange marks on their bodies."

"This the house out on Crestfield?"

The brothers looked at each other and nodded.

"Sorry to disappoint, but turned out it really was just an electrical fault. The burns," Harry tapped his fingers together where most of the marks had been found, "loose wire in the basement. They go to investigate it," he reached out, miming the action, "and 'zzt!'"

"Huh…"

"So you guys gonna stay on in town for a bit or you heading out again?"

Dean shrugged. "Might as well stick around till we find a new job. Mind if we crash here?"

"Sure-"

Harry was interrupted by an irate Bob coming through the bookcase shaking his head and standing in between them.

"No, no no! Harry they can't stay here!"

"Hey Bob!" Dean said cheerfully.

Sam echoed his sentiment, smiling brightly before bringing a hand to his head, trying to shake away the building headache.

"Bob they're not going to kill you…" Harry said calmly.

"Killing me is fine! I could handle killing! What they do is so much worse!"

"You don't know that Bob…"

"I have no illusions where I'll end up if I'm ever released from this curse Harry, and I'm telling you they can't stay here!"

"Bob, it'll be al---Sam? Sam, are you ok?"

Harry stepped quickly around the ghost, reaching to steady Sam as his knees buckled, his hands clutching at his head, gasping in pain, with Dean on the other side of him calling his name. The two of them lowered him gently to sit on the floor, Dean keeping hold of his brother, while Harry stepped back, sure he should do something, but not sure of what.

"Sam! Come on Sammy." Dean urged his brother.

Suddenly Sam's eyes flew open and he looked desperately between the three of them, breath still coming fast.

"We have a much bigger problem."

"What are you doing?"

"We are not taking my car."

"Why not? You wanna be seen in the Jeep?"

"I'm not having your weird technology thing break my baby. We're going in your car."

"Come on…"

"Guys! We really don't have time for this!"

Sam was still rubbing at his eyes, swaying on his feet a little and a quick shared glance of concern over his head had the matter decided.

Harry started the Jeep as Dean shoved Sam in the back and slipped into the passenger seat. They were off.

"So since when have you been psychic?" Harry asked over his shoulder.

"It's a long story." Dean said defensively.

Sam groaned as he sat up straight. "I'm right here Dean!" He turned rested a hand on the back of Harry's seat. "It started off at nightmares about two years ago, but then I started getting them when I was awake too."

"Are they fairly consistent or quite random? Do they always focus on certain types of events or people?"

Dean shifted in his seat uncomfortably. "Dude, do we really need to go into this now?"

"It'll take us a little while to get to the college at this time of day in the Jeep. Besides, maybe I can help. I've had a vision or two of my own you know, nightmares too."

Harry waited while Sam and Dean silently discussed the matter in the sibling language of gazes and body language.

Finally Sam sighed. "It's the demon. I see things to do with the demon. Him…and the other kids like me. The ones he has plans for…"

Harry couldn't believe what he was hearing. He glanced between Dean and Sam hoping that this was just some joke, while trying to keep his eyes on the road.

"Huh…this is a much bigger problem."
