Vampire Baseball, an American Pastime

By: Rachael Stark

Velvet voice

In my ear

Does it care

That I fear

Victoria and her friends

Coming to make amends?

Playing baseball

In a field

When they approach

He will yield

His pearl white teeth

So I'll be away

From these dangerous "people"

Everyday.

The crack of a bat

The whoosh of a player

Laurent tips his hat,

"Now what do we have here?"

They sense my fear

The Cullen's come running near

"You brought a snack,"

James breathes in,

His group is at lack

Their numbers only standing at three

Against us all

We are sure to go free.

A protective stance

A little dance

A fight is to come

I will run from

These crazy "people"

And my friends will come, too.

But if they don't, they have nothing to lose.

Emmett is pumped

Esme is scared

I am worried

But I know they are prepared.

Alice is fretting

Carlisle is pacing

Jasper and Rosalie are betting

And my heart is racing.

I've no need to worry

There is more of a risk for me

But he can see

The fear in my eyes

Edward tries to disguise his shame

"I'm sorry, Bella" he whispers my name.

"This is all my fault"

He is acting insane!

My eyes double in size

There are menacing vampires

With their crimson lined eyes

James, trying to disguise his thirst,

Advances first.

I shudder and hide behind Edward.

"I'm sorry," his face is pained its worst.

Well, I'm not.

My cheeks are getting hot.

I'm going to blush

I feel the blood rush

My adrenaline is pumping

My heart is thumping

And he is standing close

The one I love the most.

That is all that matters

No matter what

But I can't help but feeling

This is the start of a new way

Of trying to survive living day to day

With my good vampires existing in my life

Like balancing at the point of a knife

But I have Edward.

I'll be okay.

I'll just stay away from non-vegetarian vampire friends

Trying, yes

Persistently trying

To settle the score

To end the lore

That is the life of Bella Swan

Yawn

Time go back home

Charlie's going to be alone

For longer than he knows

Because the differences will surely show.

I want to be a montster, too.

I want to be

Just

Like

You.
