Taiy-Chan: This is a short story, so it's not intended to be long. So don't lecture me about its shortness. I've decided to write a feel good one-shot because all of my other ones are depressing. And to add to it, I'm planning on writing another one...To Billy Talent's song Nothing to Lose, so that should give you an idea on what it's about. Anyways, hope you like it!

Slow and Silent

The shadows on the purest snow are blue, instead of grey. When no one else is around, the blue-tinted fields of snow are just there, waiting forever, as though time is standing still. Slow and silent, the snow keeps falling.

Rei sat silently, watching the snow drift slowly to the ground.

He was sitting on an old stone bench outside of Kai's mansion. The crisp, winter air had drawn him from the bustling excitement inside as his friends prepared for their Christmas party.

"What are you doing out here?" Kai asked as he sat down beside his friend, brushing off the snow that covered some of the bench.

"Just watching. Enjoying life." Rei answered, smiling. Kai smiled also as they slipped into a comfortable silence, each lost in his thoughts.

"It's beautiful, isn't it?" Kai whispered as he stared out onto the open fields that surrounded his home.

The pine trees' branches where heavy with snow and the stone pathways nearly buried under it. The snow fell silently onto the frozen pond, making the ice glisten.

"Yeah." Rei sighed, his breath coming out in a cold stream. "It makes you think..."

"It makes you think what?" Kai questioned, cocking his head to the side as he glanced at his friend.

"I don't know... Do you ever wonder... I mean, after this is all over.. What will happen to us?" Rei saw Kai's confused look and struggled to explain. "Like, we can't always compete in the tournaments, when we get older, we'll all go our separate ways. What will happen then? Adults always talk about how they regret loosing contact with their old friends... Do you think that'll happen to us?"

The bluenett sighed.

"I don't know, Rei. Usually, I don't really think about the future, because there's no use worrying over something you can't change. But." he looked up at the sky, "I think, that normal adults haven't gone through the same thing that we have. We've traveled around the world together, competed in the World Championships, getting through though times. We even saved the world once. Actually, many times." Kai looked back at Rei, his damp bangs sticking slightly to his face. "I think we have a bond that won't be so easily broken."

Rei smiled and nodded. It was very rare to see Kai talk so much, especially about something like friendship. It was at times like this when you see the real Kai. Maybe it had something to do with the whole peacefulness of the scene around them.

The two friends sat in silence as they watched the snow fall slowly to the ground.
