This was an odd fic to right. I actually meant to write this preAWE, but this story had other plans. I might try this again later and keep to my original idea. I'm actually quite happy with how this one turned out. I hope you guys like it, and please review.
This fic is based on gealuv's video with the same title. I suggest scurrying over to YouTube and watching it. Bring the tissues. It's pretty moving.
Disclaimer: I don't own anything. I'm just a poor college student.
Anywhere
"Come with me," she whispered.
Jack hesitated. His common sense was telling him to run away. The situation was dangerous, and the set of brown eyes staring into his own was almost maddening.
"I can't, love." He turned away from her. It was safer to look away. If he continued to look, she would persuade him for sure.
"But, Jack, no one will ever know." Her voice was hopeful, music to his ears. "By the morning we could be headed anywhere we want to go. No one would be able to stop us once we're on our way."
"You sound like me." He gave her a faint smile adjusting his tricorn. "You're not thinking."
"But I am, Jack." She quickly positioned herself in front of him. "Aren't you the same man who spoke of freedom? Let's take it."
His eyes were sad as he took hold of her shoulders. She didn't understand at all. "I can't go, Lizzie. We'd never be able to live with ourselves."
She wasn't ready to give up yet. "We can forget all of this. No one will know who we are. We can disappear. Don't you see, Jack? By tomorrow this could all be a bad dream."
He had to admit that the thought was appealing. It would be such a relief to become someone else and run away, but he'd been running his whole life. Maybe it was time to finally face what he was running from.
"There's nothing out there for us." He didn't believe a word of it. "You belong here."
"Jack…" She couldn't believe what he was saying. "Let's runaway. Haven't you wanted to?
He did want to go with her. He wanted to go with her more than he had ever wanted to go with any other woman. He just couldn't. "No."
She closed her eyes. "You can't lock your heart away forever, Jack."
He looked at her sad face and almost grabbed her right there. She was more than he had first thought her to be; yet deep down, he always knew her true nature. She was a pirate. Someone else's pirate.
"You'll regret this tomorrow." He said smiling. He would regret this, too. "I'm not worth it."
He turned and left her standing alone in the warm sand. The whelp would always haunt her dreams if he agreed to go with her. He couldn't have that hanging over his head for the rest of his days on Earth. They could've been half way to Anywhere….
"Jack!"
There she was standing beside him. He didn't know how she got there, but she had taken hold of his hand. "I can't bear these burdens alone any longer. No one can hold us down."
"You're desperate, Lizzie." He continued walking toward his small boat. In the distance, the Pearl called to him. "You'd never say this if you weren't."
She stopped following him and watched as he got into the boat and started rowing toward the Pearl. As he faded into the horizon, she turned away and headed back up the beach.
"You suggested it first."
