The Return

Prologue: History of Alagaësia

Alagaësia has existed for untold ages. Some consider the greatest event of all time the battle against King Galbatorix, but in truth this is a mere footnote in the continent's history. The main reason this event is so well known are the three tomes written (Eragon, Eldest, and a third tome with a name still unknown by researchers). However, this tale allegedly occurred thousands of years ago, making it irrelevant.

Today, the land is ruled by an assembly of what are said to be the finest minds in Alagaësia. However, unlike Galbatorix, this council attempts to rule as much as possible with a gentle hand, rather than a guiding fist. However, not even a just leader can help the territory, as a new army has risen up. These warriors are often likened to the various rebel groups that have sprouted over the years, but most, unlike the previous groups, consider these new rebels unruly and things that must be exterminated. Although the age of the Dragon Riders has long passed, there is still an eternal war raging. This war sweeps across the land, not with fierce flying beasts or brave young heroes, but in the dark, while the rest of the world turns a blind eye. However, like the tale of the mighty Eragon, sometimes battles must be won by those with extraordinary powers, even those without the will to fight. And, like the tale of Eragon, the tale will begin with a hunting excursion by a young one who lives in a village near the Spine. This time, however, the boy is not alone.
