This was an idea I got while I was studying at school, yes I know it sounds weird but it sounded way less strange in my head. The story mainly focuses on Jay and his role as a protector of Ninjago. Yes, for once it's not all about the Green Ninja's legacy.
Enjoy!
Jay blinked the sleep out of his eyes, trying to remember what had happened last night. It was all in bits and pieces, Cole had made curry (lucky them) and then Kai and Nya had left after getting news - Zane had been talking about things with Lloyd - yet Jay couldn't remember anything after that.
"So, the Zombie lives?" Came a sleepy voice from beside him, it was Cole. Looking as if he hadn't slept in many weeks.
"You look terrible" Jay retorted.
Cole grinned. "Well, you look much better than yesterday."
Jay didn't feel the dull ache in his chest anymore, or the fact that he'd suffered from a cold previously.
"What happened?" Jay asked.
Cole gave him a serious glare, "you fainted just after Kai and Nya left, your temperature was high and you weren't breathing right. Zane said your heart stopped beating for a couple of seconds." He explained.
That did make a lot of sense, Jay was just glad that he wasn't sick anymore. Though his throat still hurt and he was cold and shivering. He was mostly okay.
He got up, kicking the blanket off of him as he slowly realised that he was in his room. Did they carry me here? He thought. Shrugging to himself he walked towards the closet and trailed his eyes along the line of clothes that lay neatly before him.
"I'll be on the deck" was all Cole said before leaving and closing the door behind him.
Jay picked through some clothes, once happy with a blue hoodie and a pair of blue jeans with trainers he left his room and walked into the kitchen where Zane was cooking.
The chemicals filled Jay's nose and he grinned. "Pancakes?" He said to Zane who served him a plate with some golden syrup on the side. Just how he liked it.
Zane noticed his happy expression and said, "ah Jay! Your looking better, that sleep must have helped!"
Jay had protested when he had his cold, he still wanted to fight and protect Ninjago with his friends. But he had gotten worse after following them into battle a couple of days ago.
Lloyd was already at the table, prodding the remainder of his food with a fork. Uninterested.
"Guess it did," Jay replied, "where are Kai and Nya?" He asked, glancing around the kitchen for the two siblings.
Zane looked at him sadly, "their still at the Blacksmith's shop. Ray passed away last night."
Jay's eyes widened in shock, Ray who had the same illness as Jay had gotten dramatically worse after his cold turned into the flu. He didn't realise such a common sickness was so deadly to some.
"Are they okay?" It was a stupid question to ask, he realised that after he'd said it.
"I'm not too sure, Sensei went with them. He did know Ray very well."
Jay, though he hadn't really known the man still felt like he'd lost someone very close to him. He remembered what Ray had said to him just a week earlier when the two were perfectly healthy. Your a good kid, I'm glad my daughter chose someone like you to give her the love she deserves. The man's words still echoed freshly in his mind.
Zane placed the plate of pancakes in front of him, but Jay no longer felt like eating. He felt sick.
He thought of rushing over the the shop to comfort his girlfriend, but he knew this was a family matter. And as much as he didn't like to hear it, Jay wasn't family.
Just at that moment, Sensei Wu entered the room, followed by a sad Kai, Nya and their mother, Maya.
Jay remained silent, staring down at his pancakes he quietly pushed them away. The once sweet smell repulsed him.
"Of course you can stay here," Wu was saying to Maya, "as long as you want!"
Kai sat down at the table, and Nya next to him. Both of them looked depressed, a cold sadness in their eyes. Jay didn't meet their gazes.
"Thank you" was all Maya said before leaving the room with two bags.
The whole place was silent. As silent as it had ever been. As silent as a Jay who had taken a vow silence (lame joke? Sorry!)
"How are you feeling?" Kai was looking straight at Jay, his dull eyes full of concern and worry.
"Uh, better I guess." Jay murmured, avoiding the Fire Ninja's gaze.
Silence once again took over the room before Cole was rushing in, eyes wide and filled with panic.
"Somethings attacking Ninjago!"
