"Come on Mione. We can go to the rides a bit later. I really want to see this first."
Hermione sighed. Her cousin could be very persuasive if she wanted to, and currently, the latter had decided she wanted to visit the fortune teller's tent. Hermione herself, have been in contact with real magic, did not believe in fortune tellers, especially those who were Muggles. She knew it was simply a combination of clever guesswork and careful observation.
Nonetheless, when Kath had her mind set on something, she usually did not give up. Knowing this, Hermione yielded and nodded her head, and then was promptly dragged into the tent.
The inside of the tent was much more eclectic than Hermione had imagined. The ochre canvas was almost completely covered in mystical looking objects. They were not really magical of course. Hermione smiled to herself.
The fortune teller sat on the other side of the small table, head covered entirely with a cloak. How her cpusin could trust someone who didn't even show her face, she didn't know. She began to look around the tent again, and this time, something caught her eye. She narrowed her eyes at the object, even as the fortune teller began to mutter something to Kath. A part of Hermione's mind registered that the voice sounded somewhat familiar, but she was too busy trying to work out why the dragon scale looked so real and the threstal hairs so lifelike. Surely, this person couldn't have gotten the real items from somewhere?
She was so caught up, that she never noticed that her cousin was done with her reading, unil she felt a tug at her arm.
"Mione? You ready to go?"
Hermione looked at her for a moment and then decided something. "Can ypu wait outside for a few minutes?"
Her cousin looked surprised, but nodded and headed outside the little tent.
Hermione turned to the fortune teller and spoke in a low voice. "Mandy?"
The figure nodded and removed her hood, revealing the smiling face of a witch Hermione used to know.
"Everyone wondered where you went after the war, you know," Hermione said, still finding it hard to believe.
"Now you know, then." Mandy smiled.
"So this is what you have been doing for all these years?" Hermione asked.
"Pathetic, isn't it?" Mandy gestured to the things around her. Hermione smiled reassuringly. "I think it's clever."
"What, fooling Muggles?"
Hermione shrugged in response. A sharp tap on the tent reminded her that Kath was still waiting.
"You should go," Mandy sighed.
"I should," Hermione agreed. "But will I see you here tomorrow evening?"
Mandy frowned, confused for a moment, before smiling her assent.
"Of course."
