Sesshoumaru held her back from running to the well that was only a few scant feet away. Autumn leaves fell to the ground coloring the clearing with reds, browns, oranges and yellows. Turning her in his arms, he studied her face with questioning eyes.

"I have to go home Sesshoumaru." She whispered. The jewel was complete and she had to go home before the well closed. Once the wish was made she wouldn't be able to go.

She tried to pull away from him, but his grip was to firm. She wasn't going anywhere unless he let her. In an instant his hands went up to either side of her face, forcing her to look at him. In his eyes was more emotion than she had ever seen in them before.

"Stay with me," He murmured." Be my mate."

Those three words had tears welling up in her eyes, threatening to overspill.

"I can't." She whispered, throwing her arms around him. "But I want to."

Despite herself tears began to stream down her face, soaking the silk of his hoari. At the sent of her tears resolution held firm in him. He knew what he had to do.

"I'll wait for you." He said, causing her tear-streaked face to snap up to look at him. "I may not be there the moment you arrive on the other side of the well. But I will come for you."

His lips crashed upon hers, in a 'last' kiss. Her arms went around his neck, and one of his hands went to the back of her head. When they parted her tears were dry, but she still looked sad.

"I love you." She whispered.

She knew she couldn't rush him with his reply. She couldn't force him to admit an emotion that was so foreign to him. In time he would see how he felt about her. He would love her.

"I'll come for you, Kagome." He murmured in reply.

"I know." She said.

Him speaking her name after saying he would do something basically meant, "I promise". With the assurance that she would soon see him again, she turned and headed towards the well. She jumped in, without doubt, because she knew on the other side of the well, love was waiting for her.
