A/N: Heyy! This is a really old story I wrote, featuring Luffy and Zoro. It's pretty short, but hope someone enjoys it.
The shining moon sat up in the serene midnight sky, accompanied by the happy twinkling stars. Luffy had observed the many pictures of the moon that night, as if they were books just waiting to be read. Out of his curiosity, he decided to run over to Zoro, who had currently been sleeping peacefully, to ask him a few questions.
"Zoroooo!" He practically pounced on the poor swordsman. "Tell meee!" he whined.
Zoro glared at the childish, almost monkey-looking face Luffy made and grunts. "Tell you what?"
"About the moon!" he whined again.
"What about it?" He pushed his captain off and sat upright.
Luffy went silent for a moment, contemplating on what to inquire. "...I don't know!" He frowned, but it was soon replaced with his usual broad, energetic smile. "Tell me a story about the moon!"
Zoro groaned. "If I do, will you go away?"
Luffy replied with a vigorous nod, his hat wobbling and threatening to fall off.
"Okay..." The older teen lay back down on the polished deck and stared up at the moon, Luffy following suit. "How about the one with the rabbit?"
"Oooh, I've never heard that one before!" he informs the other with ecstasy.
'I don't think you've ever heard of any stories about the moon before...' Zoro mused, a sigh brushing past his lips.
"C'mon, c'mon! Begin!" The straw hat-clad captain poked Zoro's head in frustration.
"Alright!" he growled.
"Yay!"
"...Once, long ago–in the morning of the world–there was a rabbit. He was like most other rabbits, except for one thing. He had a dream. It was the sort of dream that will not go away, that is there when you are asleep and awake, and tugs at you even when you are trying to think of something else. The–"
"Wait! The rabbit needs a name!" Luffy's grin grew bigger and he put his finger to his chin. "Hmm...Hmm..."
"Luffy, stop interrupting!"
"His name shall be Momiji!" the rubber boy declared, then stayed silent and blinked. "Zoro, why'd you stop? Continue! Continue!"
"My God, Luffy, you're dense." He rubbed his temples. "Anyway, this dream the rabbit–" Luffy frowned. "–I mean... Momiji had was to ride on top of the moon, far above the earth. At first, he tried to run up to the highest hill he could find and jump off it to reach the moon. It didn't work, so he asked Kangaroo to help him, because kangaroos can jump higher. Kangaroo said no, believing this dream was impossible. Momiji frowned and decided to ask Giraffe, because giraffes necks are long. Giraffe also said no, making Momiji feel even more discouraged. After asking many different animals, and receiving the same answer, Momiji was just about to give up when Crane came along. 'What's wrong?' Crane had asked. 'No one will help me with my dream, my goal,' he replied sadly. Crane smiled and offered his services to Momiji, which the young rabbit happily accepted. Crane flapped his wings as hard as he could, and flew above the clouds and beyond. Momiji, with his hopes fully restored, thanked and jumped off of Crane and flew to the moon," Zoro finished and sat up, still looking at the moon.
Luffy also sat up, and looked at Zoro. He gave him a small, happy smile and hugged the other. "Awww, that was nice, Zoro." He yawned. "You're my favorite first-mate ever."
The swordsman rolled his black eyes as they glistened warmly in amusement. 'Thanks, Luffy.' Zoro ruffled the sleeping teen's shaggy hair before he lay back again, his arms comfortably acting as a pillow.
The moon was still shining its magnificent silver glow, and in the center, was the little rabbit. Momiji held a small mortar he brought along with him. Up there, he pounded rice and made mochi for all of Earth's creatures. He was the one who kept dreams alive. And his best friend, Crane, was the one who kept friendships alive.
