Watching the primary buffer panel fly past as he entered atmo, Malcolm Reynolds cursed savagely. 'Can't get that gorram thing to stay on more'n a month without it comin' off at the worst possible time…' Mal looked for an area he could divert to that wasn't a screaming blizzard, and all he could see was white. 'I hate this go-se-eating iceball…'

Struggling to remember what River had done the last time this happened, and coming up blank, he was reaching for the intercom when she slid into the co-pilot's seat and skillfully took control, riding the shockwave of re-entry like a master, all the while with an absent-minded look on her face and only half an eye on the controls. Still laughing, Mal got up and left the cockpit on his way to the cargo bay. Turning to the corner, she said, "Thank you, Wash."

"You're welcome, mei mei. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a certain dark-skinned warrior woman to spy on." Leering widely, the spirit of Wash started to sink into the floor, but paused partway through, and smiling widely, he said," And good luck with the captain, the Dear and Fluffy Lord knows you'll need it, not to mention the patience of a saint, the constitution of a…" His voice trailed off as he finished descending, leaving a blushing River to contemplate her plans in silence.
