"So, I know you don't do relationships all that well, but, don't you get lonely in there sometimes?" Shane had her arm arund Carmen as they were walking down Sunset Boulevard. "In where?" Carmen took her hand and placed it on Shane's chest. "Your heart." Shane took her hand and let their fingers entertwine. "It does, when I lose myself, when I end up in complete darkness and depression. That's when I worry. I freak myself out, because I know that if I take another step, I will fall. When that happens, I know my friends will always be there to help me stand and I love that about them, it's how they're built to function.
They enter 'The Planet' and choose a desired table without ordering. Their hands are touching. "You're in the deep end and I suggest that you swim the other way before it's too late." Carmen withdrew her hand and sat in silence, staring into Shane's dark eyes. "I'm your friend too you know." Shane leaned forward to see Carmen's face better.
She wanted to memorize every mark and scar, every line, every smile, everything. "I know and I love that. But I can't. I can't be what you want me to be. Believe me, nothing would make me happier than to give you what you want. But when I can't, it's a problem, Carmen. I have a problem. I wish you could help me, but no one can."
Carmen felt uncomfrotable. "Okay, yeah, so I'm going to go." Their hands touched once more before she left and Shane looked longingly at her, as she walked out the door and disappeared into the day.
