A/N: This is a short one-shot of Rikash and Sarralyn Salmalin during a boring day at Mage's Tower. This was written for the sole purpose of trying to get my muse flowing.
Disclaimer: The squirrels? Yeah, they're mine...everything else belongs to the Goddess
Dedication: How could I live without you, my Purple Eyed Cat? This is dedicated to you and Dodger...and freshman year I suppose :D
Mage's Tower
Rikash Salmalín sat in the Mage's Tower dining room, his black eyes observing his sister with interest. Sarralyn sat with an eagle on her knee, her dark eyebrows knit in concentration. Smokey black curls fell around her face and her slightly tanned skin glowed with perspiration as the young woman focused on her charge.
A growl escaped her throat as she broke free of her magic, swiftly tying her hair back with a black ribbon. "Having fun?" Rikash inquired lazily, tossing a roll of bread from one hand to the other. A snarl warned him to his imminent danger and he ducked under the table as a spoon went flying past the spot where his head used to be.
"Ri, I will set the squirrels on you," Sarra growled, raising a finger, her stormy grey eyes glinting. Rikash raised his eyes above the edge of the table and raised them, muttering under his breath.
"Rikash!" Sarra's voice rang out angrily, pure fury. Rikash had spun a small enchantment that wove Sarra's sleeves to her pants and her pants to the chair, leaving his sister utterly helpless—or so Rikash thought.
What happened next was so unexpected that Rikash just stood dumbfounded, staring at the swarm of squirrels. "By the Graveyard Hag," he whispered, grounded for a moment by the deafening squeaks of hundreds of squirrels. Sarra laughed in revenge-filled amusement, carefully trying to pull herself free as her 'minions' swarmed.
"You forgot about the squirrels, Ri," she giggled as the first one clawed its way up Rikash to settle on his legs. Within moments, the young man was surrounded by a mix of squirrels. The most common, the grey, had converged closest to Rikash, their fur pointed in excitement.
"Call them off!" Rikash shouted just as Sarra whispered, "Go." Instantly, the squirrels converged on every ticklish spot on Rikash's tanned and lean body, clearing the wind out of him in a second. The 'regal' sorcerer descended into laughter, tears springing from his black eyes. His black hair came loose of its ribbon as he fell to the floor, breathless.
"I surrender!" He cried, trying to shove the rolling wave of squirrels off of his body. Sarralyn smirked, her eyes sparkling with mirth.
"Release me and I'll get them off of you," She answered in turn, snapping her fingers so that the squirrels stopped their frenzied movement. The eagle, clearly forgotten in the past 30 seconds released an ear-piercing scream that sent the woman into a fit of giggles.
"Sarralyn and Rikash Salmalín, I am fair disappointed in the both of you." The reprimand came from the main entrance, meaning that both of their heads snapped to look behind them. Framed in the doorway were the lanky form of Numair Salmalín and the powerful form of Daine Salmalín, the Wildmage.
"Uh-oh," Sarra whispered, just before the squirrels fixed their beady eyes on her.
