Blaise sat on a log with an ice-cold beer in hand, taking a sip as he stared into the large bonfire. It had been Daphne's idea to have a small get-together with all their class-mates from Hogwarts by the lake of her family's home. Currently everyone was dancing to the music from the wireless she had brought onto the beach, their feet kicking up the sand as they moved.
Blaise could join them as well but he just sat back, preferring to just watch the crowd. The years apart since the end of the war had taken effect on everyone it seemed. House rivalries disappeared as people Blaise thought were mortal enemies were laughing together like friends. Pansy and Theodore were actually talking to Granger, while a few ex-Puffs were involved in some type of drinking game with Goyle and few others. A few of them had gotten married like Longbottom and Weasley.
"Secret fire fetish?" a female voice asked as she took a seat on the log beside him.
Blaise looked at the small redhead beside him. She looked familiar though she was definitely more mature than the image his mind was conjuring. "Tried it once. Almost burnt the house down," he said.
She laughed and turned to watch the flames with him. "It's soothing though."
He had to agree. The fire seemed to be calming him down and he found it hard to look away from the dancing flames.
"I was a bit scared to come here tonight but this is nice," she said as she took a sip of her own drink. "Everyone seems so different."
Blaise nodded. "Time will do that," he said.
"Even you," she added.
"Me?" Blaise asked.
"Yes, you always seemed to quiet and mysterious, so unapproachable. But now, I actually felt like I could sit next to you," she said.
Blaise scoffed. "Well, you've changed so much, I don't even know who you are."
She burst out laughing, something Blaise hadn't expected from her. "You don't remember me?" she asked.
Upon his slight shake of the head, the young woman calmed herself and pulled him to his feet. "Dance with me," she said.
Blaise didn't even have time to complain as she dragged him into the crowd. All he could was focus on her as they moved together to the music, her body sending pleasant trills through his as she leaned against him. She was so vibrant and carefree, wild and unruly, just like the fire they danced around. Her laugh was contagious and he found himself laughing along with her to a joke neither of them knew. He was having more fun with her than he ever had in his life.
Suddenly she stopped and looked over his shoulder. "I'm sorry, I have to go now," she said.
"Will I ever see you again?" Blaise asked as he held her close, not wanting to let her go.
She smiled and pulled from his grasp. "I'm sure you will," she said as she walked away from him.
Blaise watched her walk away and Draco came up and clapped a hand on his shoulder. "Had a good time with girl-Weasley?" he asked.
"That was her?" Blaise asked in surprise as he watched her walk over to Granger, Weasley and Potter. Her red hair seemed darker though maybe that was a trick of the light, her freckles had lessened and she seemed to have aged quite a bit, a far cry from the young girl from his school days.
"Yes, not bad, eh?" Draco asked.
"Not bad at all," Blaise said.
