Yuta sat along the riverbank, his eyes focused on the many buildings that made up Academy City. Compared to the heavily industrialized city center that made up most of the city, the serene area where the major river divided the two halves of the city was a stark contrast. Here, Yuta did not have to endure the constant onslaught of car horns, yelling, and other unpleasant noise. He leaned back to feel the cool grass against his back and he enjoyed the breeze blowing through the area.

"How did you do on your test?"

"Stop pestering me about it!"

Yuta looked behind him to see two girls walking home along the concrete path set out for pedestrians who wanted to see the river with the city in the background. Sometimes the students who walked by would be on their cellphones and Yuta could listen in on their conversations using his ability until they passed out of his range. Even texts could be intercepted and Yuta enjoyed reading through the many messages sent between a particular girl and boy. A car would occasionally drive by and Yuta could listen to what was playing on the radio which provided him with some music during the more quiet moments.

Yuta's stomach growled and he reached into his pocket to pull out a microwavable snack that he had stolen from home when he had run away. Normally, it would have been impossible to eat without a microwave but upon taking it out of its wrapper, the young boy cooked it with his own hands before stuffing it into his mouth. It burned his tongue but he still chewed gratefully, savoring the flavor. After finishing the snack Yuta waited, slowly curling up into a ball as the sun set. The night chill began to set in and Yuta shivered as he thought about the warm blankets at home.

Mom… Tears began to form in his eyes as he thought about the argument he had had with his mother just a few hours ago.

Suddenly he heard a humming noise from behind him and he looked to see a young woman walking towards him, four green balls flitting around her. The eerie, greenish glow illuminated her face and clothes which made Yuta's eyes widen.

"There you are. I've been looking all over for you!" she said as she stopped in front of him.

Yuta wiped away his tears. "Hi, mom."

AN: Hi, my name is JoeSoy. This is my first story ever and it's about Mugino, a character that I really want to see more of in the Raildex world because I love her ability and character. Sorry for the short chapter. It's more of a prologue due to the fact that I had to write this in a hurry. I've loved the Raildex series for a long time now and I recently got back into it. Please note that my knowledge of the world comes almost entirely from the anime. I'm currently making my way through the light novels but it's slow going due to Kamachi's writing style.

If you guys are interested in this story I'll continue it. Also, I hope the formatting didn't get completely ruined. I own a mac and it's way easier to upload on a pc. FF needs to implement google docs upload ASAP. I hope you enjoyed!
