Sooo...my first PJO/HoO-centered piece of writing, I guess...a little drabble on who Ithink might be the sacrifices in Blood of Olympus. Make sure to tell me what you think; constructive criticism is appreciated!
Nope, don't own anything except my idea!
JASON
"Reyna," Jason pleaded, "Please don't...please-"
"Grace." She bit his words off not only with her stern voice, but also with her much colder eyes, eyes that looked like hardened, black glass. "No one can change my mind now. Not you, not anyone from Camp Jupiter or New Rome. This...was...is, my choice."
"You can't do this!" Frank exclaimed, trying to ignore the mud sucking at his jean cuffs, "Reyna, you're actually willing to wake Gaea?"
She stood up straighter, fingering the hilt of one of her daggers, an unreadible expression on her regal face. "I am. And I will. The war is lost, Zhang; can't you see that? Gaea swore she wouldn't harm any demigods if we would let her overrun Olympus and finish off the gods."
"Reyna, listen to yourself-" coughed Percy weakly, taking a wobbly step forward only for Annabeth to pull him upright before the earth could swallow his feet any further.
"I have heard all I need to listen to," the praetor hissed, drawing her dagger. "And I'm ready to accept my fate."
"And...and so am I." Nico spoke up from the shadows. "If it means that those gods won't ruin anyone's lives anymore, I'm in."
"Nico, you're talking about our parents!" Hazel gasped, voice cracking as she spoke. "You can't just let them die!"
"They watch us die!" He snarled, dark eyes a mix of pain and insanity. "They watch us do everything for them and do what? Nothing!" He calmed down slightly as he listened to his last outburst ring through the clearing, expression rock-hard but the dark madness in his eyes watering down to an even worse sadness. "I'm only doing this to protect you...all of you. Maybe you'll understand someday."
Jason tried to grasp his mind around what the young demigod was thinking, coming to a conflicted conclusion. By letting Gaea rise, he was indirectly protected them-insuring them a life without any more Greek or Roman gods. And if Gaea kept the rest of her vow, no monsters, Titans, or giants would ever bother half-bloods again. Just for the price of their parent's destruction.
It was what the gods deserved, Jason mulled, then immediately felt sick for thinking that. If only Piper was here. Jason knew she would talk Nico and Reyna out of it. But she wasn't here. And that fact made Jason want to collapse in a miserable heap and forget he existed.
"But so many sacrificed themselves to stop this," Annabeth's face was contorted with rage and agony as she voiced Jason's thoughts, for once her grey eyes showing emotion openly. "Piper. Thalia. Grover...Octavian. Leo." At each name she choked a bit, though it looked like she having a seizure when she mentioned Octavian. "Don't they count for anything, Nico? Reyna?"
Reyna hesitated, but Nico responded evenly, "Once Hades fades, Bob will take over, and he has promised to set those who died in the war free. It's a win-win. No losses."
"Except our parents," Hazel muttered.
Reyna ignored her and unsheathed her knife, while Nico slowly slipped his sword into his grasp.
They looked at each other and seemed to come to a decision. Reyna mouthed, "Ready?"
Nico nodded without hesitation and held up his weapon. "The time has come for the gods to get what they should have gotten a while back...This is for the demigods everywhere."
Reyna repeated firmly, "For the demigods."
