She likes his shirts better.
Emma Swan will never admit it out loud, she would never hear the end of it from Mary Margaret or David if she did. But she likes his shirts better.
Pushing aside the fact that the shoulders are usually a bit too broad and the sleeves too long, the deputy found herself stealing button up shirts every now and again to add to a collection of his shirts that had begun with one simple cotton t-shirt that she borrowed to sleep in but never returned. They hand in her closet and when she knows it is going to be a bad day or when she runs out of clean clothes they get pulled off of their coat-hanger, sleeves rolled up and the bottom tucked into a pair of jeans.
He notices, she's not stupid enough to believe that she can get away with it. While they live in an almost crime-free town, he's literally being paid to be observant. It's not as though he got the job by charming his way in to the Mayor's good graces.
He'll make a comment about how he needs to buy some new shirts, and she'll just shrug and continue on with what she was doing. Whenever she wears them he wears this smug smile on his face for the duration of the day, like he's marked his territory so the other males know not to pursue her.
Now she can't deny that it's stupid. The smug look on his face, the 'marking of territory'. She isn't a possession, she isn't 'his' to own. But she has to face the truth.
She likes his shirts better.
She likes that they're that little bit bigger, and that they make her feel closer to him on the bad days or during fights. She likes the small space that they occupy in her cupboard, next to all her clothes and the pants that he leaves there in case they're late to work one morning and there's no time to go back to his place.
Emma Swan is independent. If she needed, she could pack up and leave at any time – granted she would only do so if Henry were to leave with her. But she likes having him close to her, it makes her feel that little bit more at home.
And a home is something she hadn't had in a very long time.

Guess what guys.
It's my three year anniversary on FFNET.
Aw yush.
So you guys get a story and I get to freak out because it's like 18 days until I go to America! Excited!
Anyway. I apologise that it's sort of – really – out of character, but I needed to post something today because if I didn't I would just give up and flop on the floor in the middle of English and my teacher wouldn't be too happy with me.
Thank you all for reading! And for everyone who's reviewed, favourited, followed anything I've written over the last three years!
All mistakes are mine.
