"Dean may I ask you something?" Cas asked from the other room while Dean was cooking dinner for them in the bunker one night.

"Depends on what it's about." Dean call back flipping the burgers in the pan and adding cheese to the tops of them. Sam knew about their relationship but he didn't like having it rubbed in his face if he could avoid it.

"Sam is out researching at the local bar. He said don't expect him back tonight." Cas said, sounding fairly confused.

Dean smirked to himself and laid out the condiments for the burgers. "Well then ask away. But first come get your burger before it gets cold."

Cas closed his laptop and walked into the kitchen humming to himself. "Dean what does sunshine taste like?"

Dean paused trying to figure out what he meant. Finally he decided to explain it in the most romantic way he could. "Its heat. Pure heat. But the bask in the warmth kind, not the burn you to the core kind."

Cas thought about it for a second then nodded. "That makes sense. Because whiskey warms you from the inside out too." He said setting his burger on the table.

It was Deans turn to look confused. "Cas what exactly are you on about now?" He asked as he grabbed colas for them from the fridge.

"Its this song that came on in a bar the last time we were on a hunt that has been stuck playing in my head ever since. Parts of it I got, like the line 'you hit me like a fire, shot me like a bullet'. I knew what the singer meant by that." Cas said taking a bite of the burger in front of him.

"Oh? And what did he mean by that?" Dean asked cracking open his cola and taking a swig.

"When I first saw you in Hell I was sure my coat had caught fire. Then I realized that wasn't actually possible, it was you that had woken up all the feeling in my body." Cas said almost casually, very aware that this was a conversation that could either take their relationship to the next level or destroy it completely.

Dean nodded for him to continue, very curious as to where he was going with this but not wanting to push him and cause everything to crumble around them.

"And the shot me like a bullet is something I feel every time you look at me with that look that says more than your words ever could. That look that says you want me, that you need me, that you..." Cas trailed off scared to put words into Dean's mouth.

"That look that says I love you but I don't know how to say it?" Dean asked quietly, pushing the food away from him, no longer hungry.

Cas felt his breath catch in his throat. "Yes that look." He breathed quietly.

"Now its my turn to ask you something." Dean said, moving around the table to take Cas's hands in his own. "Do you feel the same about me?"

Cas decided not to answer and instead leaned in and kissed him with every bit of love he felt for the human in front of him.

When they finally broke for air Dean sat there, less than a breath between them, blinking and trying to bring the room back into focus. "Castiel I love you."

Cas blinked right back at him then threw his arms around the hunter in front of him, tears of joy slowly trailing down his face. "Dean I love you."
