It's Getting Better All the Time

Draco stood in front of his mirror, a very gaunt expression on his face. He hadn't eaten for several days and hadn't slept in even longer. All he could keep thinking was "How could she do it? Why would she do that to me?" No answer he came up with was ever good enough. He couldn't figure out where he went wrong.

He ran his hand through his blonde hair as tears began to stream down his face again. He turned away from his mirror, threw his fists into the wall, and slid down to the floor. He rested his head in his hands and began to sob uncontrollably. He allowed his mind to wander back to when it all happened….

*Flashback*

He had just gotten off work and walked through the front door. The house, he noticed, was eerily quiet. "Ginny, I'm home," he called out. He got no answer in return. He took his coat off and made his way down the hall to hang it up. He paused outside their room thinking it was curious the bedroom door was closed when he knew he had left it open that morning.

"Gin-," he began then stopped as quickly as he started.

"Won't Draco be home soon?" came the voice of none other than Harry Potter through the door.

Before Ginny could answer, he opened the door and dropped his coat on the floor. "Yes, I'm home. Both of you please leave and not come back," he whispered slowly as Harry and Ginny rushed getting dressed.

*Flashback Over*

He heard something hit the floor next to him and drew him out of his head. He looked to see what it was and found that his wand had fallen down. He picked it up and tossed it on the bed just to have it fall down again and roll back towards him. "Forget it then," he muttered to himself as he grabbed it. He rolled it around in his hand, entranced in thoughts he shouldn't be having. All of a sudden he heard a popping noise and Ginny was standing in front of him. He raised his eyes to look at her and gave her a half-hearted smile.

"Draco, you look awful," Ginny remarked while looking him over.

"I do, do I? Never noticed….," he replied.

"Look, about the deal with Harry a while back. I swear nothing ha-," Ginny began.

"Save it, Ginny. I don't want to hear it," Draco began, "I know what I saw, and I think it's safe to assume what happened. I thought I was able to make you happy and giving you everything. I worked, I bought this house for us…I guess it wasn't enough. I loved you like I never loved anyone or anything else. All I ever wanted was for you to be happy, and if he does that then fine. Just leave me be. Never bothered to come back until now, did you?"

"I wanted too, Draco, I really did. Harry told me it wouldn't be a good idea. But, I had to know how you were doing," Ginny explained sympathetically.

"Well, I'm fine. You can go now. Be sure to tell him you came over here," Draco answered irritably.

"Draco, please-," Ginny began to beg.

"Go, you can go. I'll be fine. Just remember it's you. It's always been you. I love you. Always have and always will. It's getting better, I promise," Draco told her.

"I love you too….," Ginny spoke sincerely, "I'll let you alone then since that's what you want."

With those words, she left. With a loud crack, she had apparated out of the room. He looked back down at his hand and realized he had been rolling his want around since just before Ginny showed up. He shuddered as he looked at himself again in the mirror. "I do look bad…" he thought. He glanced back down at his wand again, and without thinking about it, pointed it at himself and said, "Avada Kedavra."
