She awoke with a start, the odd sensation of being watched washed over her, leaving a minor trace of suspicion. "Funny", she thought; that something so small, a mere feeling, could arouse her from her sleep. On the other hand she wasn't surprised by anything anymore, not after what had happened. Moving into an upright position she found herself once again thinking about him. The fact that he had been on her mind, ever since the incident, had begun to grate on her nerves. Constantly thinking about them, the new situation and what the future held would do that to a person.
"Is this how it'll be from now on?" she said out loud, her voice hinting annoyance.
She had never agreed with the label of helplessness society put on women and this man, consuming her thoughts, made her feel very much like the "damsel in distress". These new feelings were foreign to her, making her vulnerable. Of course she would never admit such a thing but the notion of it was frustrating. "I suppose it's unavoidable", she mused as she fell back on the pillow with a sigh. Her point of view was altered now and it was all because of him. She wasn't sure if it was good or bad but there was no going back now. Even though she in a way wanted to, she couldn't solely blame him it had been her choice too. However his ever-present grin invoked no sympathy in her and this time she chose to let him be the scapegoat.
Life had played tricks on her ever since she was a child but she had risen above her trials, proving there was no such thing as a "sure destiny". She had sworn to never be the victim of anyone or anything. Accept the situation but don't let it get to you; always find a way to come out on top. That was what kept her alive and made her strong, so why was this so bloody difficult? It was a mockery to her pride and pledge. The decision was partly her own and yet she was this riled up about it? Ridiculous! She silently berated herself for acting so weak.
No matter how new of a situation she always prevailed, but this was new territory. It wasn't an enemy you could fight; it wasn't something you could kill. She wasn't sure what she should expect but it all came down to the same thing; their relationship, no their joining.
The concept of it was rather alien to her, what would this mean to the way she led her life? Would they look at her and think of her different? "Of course they would", she told herself. Would they whisper about her as she walked through the halls of the mansion? "How could they not?" she pondered, knowing that despite the respect she held the curiosity of humans always won in the end.
He was hers and she was his, they transcended the everyday norm of a couple and it was only fitting he was the reason. It served for some kind of irony but it was the truth nevertheless. She could feel his contentment at that thought; paradoxically it was both soothing and irritating.
With a huff she rolled over on her side and tried to fall back to sleep, what point did it serve to lie sleepless and think of what might happen? True she did not know what would come but she presumed it would come clear soon. The sense of not knowing left her with a feeling of discomfort; she didn't like to be this out of control, but she figured it was as it was supposed to be.
She had after all, never had a man inside her before.
