Lee's Valentine's Day Surprise

By: Lynda Mayfield

"Hey, can you hear me?"

Amanda smiled as she held the large cell phone to her ear. She was wandering the small Alexandria International airport, looking for a contact. One who was to call her on this number in case of an emergency. However, Lee had been using it fairly regularly for the past two days. He was cross-country on special assignment with the FBI. "Yeah, reception sounds a lot better tonight. Are you in your car?"

" No, pay phone."

Since they'd been married "publicly" for two months, the Agency had kept Lee busy , with more special assignments than ever. He always tried to call her every night. She probed, "Where you headed."

"Home."

"Home?"

"Yep."

"Did you have a long day at work?" She was still trying to find that contact and hoped he wasn't trying to reach her on the cell phone. All around her there were only strangers.

"Nope. Didn't work today."

"So . . . you're done the assignment?" Did she HEAR him grinning into the phone?

" Absolutely. Well almost, I have to find my ride home."

" I'm supposed to be your ride, Lee, you were going to call me when you got in, you're not making sense."

"Sometimes, I don't."

Then she realized he was making perfect sense. She made her way to the incoming Gate from Arizona . Not another word could she force from her mouth.

"Hi. Are you suprised?" He was standing not ten feet away from her at the pay phone, talking to her as if they couldn't see one another.

"I'm surprised." She said absently and hung up her cell. She ran to him, jumping into his arms as he hung up his phone.
