Timeless

Rain flowed down the windowpanes like small rivers. The dark night sky was like a giant black hole, but instead of pulling everything into it...it just spat out droplets of water. Vehicles drove by the window, splashing water every which way. But to the pair of eyes watching, it didn't matter.

The pair of eyes stared intently at the streams of water falling down the glass. Tears streamed down from the eyes to the face. Similar to the rain's path on the window. The owner of the eyes hugs themselves more tightly. Appearing to be a young woman standing behind the window. Timeless memories always bring the tears. Along with the rain. Memories of what was, of what could have been, and of what had been always haunted her. Whether in sleep or in waking life, they haunted her like a ghost. One memory always brought the most pain. The memory of a man.

This man was like no other. He was very different. Though he was in the past. In a time she could never reach again. She had made her choice. As he had made his. Though, she could not understand why these choices had been made. Why he couldn't understand that it would have been very much to his advantage to come to this time with her. Her best friend, sister in more ways than one, always tried to convince her of all the advantages of this time. She knew the advantages. But still, a life without him was almost no life at all. There was no way back to him. She would have gone to him if there had been a way. But how could she? She didn't even know if he was still alive. If he was all right. If anything had happened to him, she knew she would die. She would never know if anything could have or even had harmed him. She had no way of telling. Though her heart told her he was fine, her mind told her to be sensible and accept the change. The change of time.

The rain tattered on the roof of the small hut. He looked up to see the roof leak a few drops straight down onto him. He groaned and sat up. Rubbing the sleep from his eyes he yawned. He looked to his left, behind the fire to see a sleeping figure lying there.

'Of course, she gets to sleep without the roof leaking on her...'

He stood to leave the hut. He silently slipped out. He felt the rain fall on him. Soaking him completely. His thoughts went back to the young woman who had left to the other time. The future. He wondered if his decision to stay in this time was a very wise one. He wondered this every day since the decision. He wanted nothing more than to see her once more. That is all it would take. Once more...and he would fly. He knew he loved her. He had known it ever since the defeat of that monster Naraku. In fact, he had known before that. He knew his heart desired and beat for her, and her alone. He knew he needed her to live. In fact, he wasn't exactly sure how he had lived without her for three years. He just wished that he had gone with her or at least told her before she left forever. That way she would have at least known. He walked to the place where she had jumped in and told him one last goodbye. He knew then, as he did now, he would never see her again. Though he still had hope he would, strangely enough.
