Chapter 1

Natsu's head felt like it was full of cotton as she returned to consciousness. She groaned lowly and turned her head to look around the room, dislodging the cloth that had been resting on her forehead.
"Finally awake Flame Brain?" Gray's voice drew her attention towards him. She blinked slowly.
"Gray?" her voice was hoarse and the ice mage helped her to sit up before giving her a glass of water.
"Feeling any better?" Gray asked softly.
"A little. What happened?"
"Gajeel said it was a coming of age thing for dragon slayers. He told us you'd be out of it for several days," Gray answered.
"The exams?"
"They all left already," Gray let some of his magic flow into his hand as he checked her temperature. She still had a fever but it had went down from earlier. Natsu let out a happy sigh at the cold touch.
"But...you are here?" Natsu sounded so confused that Gray couldn't help but chuckle.
"It didn't seem right taking the exams if I couldn't beat you in them Flame Brain," Gray said shrugging. They've competed against each other in everything since they were kids. It felt...wrong to go and possibly get promoted to S-Class while Natsu had to stay behind, sick and miserable.
"Ice Princess," was Natsu's instinctive reply, followed by a yawn. Gray gently pushed her to lay back down. He covered her with the blanket and returned the damp cloth to her forehead.
"Go back to sleep. We'll want to back to full steam when everyone comes back," Gray saw Natsu's small nod and smiled. Unlike normal, Natsu was really docile and well-behaved when she was sick. It was kinda...cute. Not that Gray would ever let anyone know he thought that.
Hey guys! Sorry this chapter is short but it's more an introduction to the main story than anything else. That...and I wanted to have it finished and posted before I went to babysit for my neighbor.
This story will be Gratsu. I've had this idea in my head for a couple of years and finally worked out a halfway decent plot to it. Everything up until this point has been canon, except Natsu is a female.
