A/N: This is a one shot, Luna Lovegood fanfic. This is set right after the grim, somber event that occurred at the end of book 6. I'd ask that if you haven't read book 6, don't read it, even though you probably know . . . it. tear. Anyway, this is my take on the funeral, through Luna's eyes.
Rating: K+, because it's so sad!
Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, or anything related to it, (unless you count dreams. . . .)
The show must go on. . .
His Spirit Lives On
(Luna POV)
I dabbed a tissue at my eyes, although I knew that stemming the flow of tears was futile. I was sitting towards the back of the congregation, listening to Fawkes sing a slow, mournful song in memoriam to his owner, the greatest wizard that ever lived.
My tears continued to flow uncontrollably as I watched the white marble tomb encase the body of the greatest man of all time. I had to tear my eyes away, it was just too unbearable.
I looked towards the front of the crowd and saw Harry, Ron, and Hermione sitting together, all trying to console one another. Ron was stroking Hermione's hair. Those two were destined for each other.
I let out a deep sigh as the tears started to subside, becoming replaced by a rage from within me as I saw Rufus Scrimgeour walk to the front to say a few words. I ignored him, and I wouldn't have been able to register a word he said anyway as I cast my eyes over the white tomb again, and tears started afresh.
Shortly after the funeral, I boarded the train going home, still coping with the loss of a great man, and the flood of tears that still shone brightly in my eyes. I was debating whether to even come back next year or not. I had heard rumors that Harry wasn't, and I couldn't say that I blamed him for not wanting to.
When I got off the train, my dad had the most comforting words I had heard all day.
"Honey, stop crying. While his body may be gone, his spirit lives on. He will only have truly left us when we stop believing in his cause, when we abandon his legacy, his beliefs, choosing instead to be morose. His body might be gone, but his spirit lives on."
A/N: well? What did you think? Please review!! That would make my day! Ohh, and while I was writing this, I got the idea for a sequel, where Luna decides not to go to Hogwarts next year, and bumps into Harry, but, well, I don't know, it kinda sounds stupid now, anyway, tell me what you think!!
