Buildings shook as sound deafened the world, bright flashes of light illuminating empty windows and streets strewn with rubble. The dark night sky weary in the blaze running rampant without pause. Citizens pausing in their routine activities to take shelter, as children did their utmost to drown out the explosions throughout the city. Their voices loud as they began spinning tales of a boy who wouldn't grow up, and the dastardly Captain Hook. Smiles alighting their faces as their parents looked on wearily.
As the sun rose, gently painting the sky lighter shades, the bombings stopped. The citizens removing the themselves from where they had hidden, their eyes taking in the damage done. Looking over destroyed buildings, some scrambling to assess damages and hastily recover precious items. Sirens whirred loudly as fire fighters hurried to put out the blaze devouring house after house, a cautious eye on the lookout for any of the injured.
A sandy blonde-haired man watched as officials searched the rubble, lifting corpses from where they laid and liberating any survivors, his forest green eyes darkening as the sun continued to rise. His large, bushy eyebrows drawn tightly downward a frown marring his handsome visage. Rolling up the sleeves of his suit he moved forward, helping the officials move piece after piece of rubble. Listening silently as voices barked commands and words of comfort.
Soon shadows grew longer as the sun sank behind the buildings that were still standing tall. Darkness enveloping the city once again. People moving hurriedly back toward their shelters, as the horrors of the night commenced once again. Bombs raining down on the city as flames rose up once more. And all the blonde-haired man could do was watch as his people continued to shoulder their misery, and wait for it to end once more.
Based on the London Blitz.
Though writing it came about fairly weirdly, (was playing a visual novel when it came to me...), I like it. Somewhat.
Had a bit of a reference to Peter Pan. Most specifically the Disney movie Return to Neverland (or at least thats what I was thinking of when I wrote that line). The part where Jane is telling the story in the bunker to her little brother... I think. She tells him something at some point in the movie...
