Head or Heart

"The question isn't if you love me, Cedrella, I already know you do. The question, is are you willing to go against your family for me?"

Cedrella stared at Septimus. They had both known it would all come down to this, and yet, she was still unprepared for the question, and from the look on his face, he was unprepared for the answer they both expected.

Cedrella was a Black, born and bred, and she had always thought that family was the most important part of life. Her parents, her siblings, she loved them all, and she had never wanted to disappoint any of them. Even now, when her very future was on the line, she didn't know if she could stand even the thought of what her Mother and Father would say if she told them she was in love with a Weasley.

Pure blooded as he was, a Blood-Traiter in their eyes, was often worse than a Mudblood.

Was she willing to defy them? To put her life in Septimus' hands and trust that he could keep her safe and happy for the rest of her life?

Her heart and her head both knew the answer, it was a shame that they disagreed. Her head, the thing she normally listened to, told her to tell Septimus to find someone else, to find someone who could accept him and everything that came with being a Weasley. To find someone who wasn't a Black.

Her heart told her that she loved him, that he loved her, and that he was worth risking her life on. Her heart told her that she would never find true happiness if she rejected him, that she would never again know love the way he offered it to her. She didn't know what to do, the conflict too much for her, and yet, she knew she had to make a decision.

Head. Heart. Head. Heart. Head. Heart. Head. Heart. Head. Heart. Head. Heart.

"I knew you'd make the right decision," Septimus told her later that night as they lay in bed. He kissed her head as he bid her good night, pulling her into his arms as they fell asleep. Together.

Her heart told her she had made the right choice.
