"I'll save him, Meggie!" He whispered in her ear. "I'll bring Dustfinger back. This story will have a happy ending. I swear!"

Farid took a deep breath. "Here goes nothing." He muttered to himself. He turned to his companion. "Ready?" He asked. "As I'll ever be." Said Meggie. She began to read.

"In the White Women's Castle Death was waiting for his next appointment. Whenever someone died that had exactly three minutes to tell him why they should be given another chance. So far no one had persauded him. The fire eater, Dustfinger, came in. Dustfinger took his own life for another. 'You shouldn't be here yet.' Said Death. Dustfinger explained. Death took pity on the fire eater, but refused to let him go back to the ones who loved him, at least, not without something in return. And so Dustfinger made a bargain with Death, he would return to the earth for one month, if in that time he could give the Death his prize target, the Adderhead, who had evaded Death for so long. And so Dustfinger returned to the Inkworld, in the Wayless Wood, where his friends were grieving for him."

"That was brilliant Meggie!" farid exclaimed. "But it might not work." She replied. Just then they heard a coughing behind them. Farid turned round. "DUSTFINGER!" He yelled, so loudly a couple of nearby fairy's took flight.
