A Million Things

Prologue

It wasn't necessarily a cold day. But still, Sienna felt cold. No reason why. Maybe it had something to do with the rain lashing at her windows and the mug of hot chocolate in her hands now gone cold. Hot chocolate. When she felt lonely, she always drank it. She wasn't really a coffee kind of person. Coffee people, by definition, were peppy. Sienna could never be peppy. She'd once been peppy. She remembered it. Naturally, she didn't want to remember it. Memories brought back thoughts and pain. It had often been said that love was forged from pain. Right. Not for Sienna. Memories for Sienna came arm in arm with grief and guilt. The guilt, of course, was natural. Whenever someone you love dies, you work a way around it to make it your fault. An excuse. It wasn't an excuse for her. Sienna could have stopped the car. She could have driven slower. She could have pressed her foot down on the brake. She could have done a million things. She could have...she could have...she could have. It still wouldn't change the fact that her father, Michael Barret, was dead.
