She ran. Delta ran beside her, panting out the same question over and over.
Where's mama, Rho?
Even Time Children called their parents mama and papa, before they were indoctrinated into the severe discipline of the ancient society.
Why couldn't Delta have been a little older?
Why could she not understand?
Why did she still ask for mama?
Rho!
The voice jerked her back to reality, as Delta's hand slipped out of her own.
RHO!
DELTA!
EXTERMINATE!
The all-too-familiar blue light engulfs Delta. Rho could only watch her die, hear her scream.
She turned and ran. Tears spilled down her cheeks again as she left Delta's body behind. One question swirled inside her head in time to her frantic heartbeats.
Why?
The Dalek blast just missed her as she hurtled round a corner, still sobbing. All around her, buildings were burning- the terrified cries of Time Lords, Ladies and Children mixing with the harsh metallic battle cry of the Daleks.
EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!
She fled down an alleyway and realised that the end was the crystal glass of the dome covering the city.
Dark shadows slid ominously closer behind her and she knew she would not even make it there.
When she thought about how she might die, she never thought it would be like this. She had hoped it would be on the mountains, watching quietly as the suns rose one last before the eternal night of death claimed her.
There is no quiet here, every last shred of peace destroyed by the screams.
But… yes. She could see the mountains, sparkling in the daylight. She wasn't not on them, but they were there. That mountain range would be the last thing she ever saw- the part of Gallifrey she'd always loved most.
A comforting thought.
EXTERMINATE!
And then there was nothing at all.
