The Jordan twins
The year was 2133 and my mother had just found out she was pregnant. Only problem was, it was twins. Here on the ark we have limited life support, that's why the 'one child' law came in to place. There was a history of twins in my family; my grandmother was a twin the only difference was they tried to hide it which ended up getting my great grandmother floated. My mother decided to take a different approach; she went straight to chancellor Jaha.
"Please chancellor. I'm begging you" my mother cried. Jaha paced back and forth in his office "I can't change the rules I'm sorry" he answered his head bowed in shame. "Then take my life for theirs. Let me care for them as babies till there old enough to know, then I will gladly give up my life for theirs"
That's exactly what happened. The day me and my brother turned 5 was the day we lost our mother. Jasper became very protective of me since then, didn't stop him for being an idiot and getting himself along with his best friend Monty arrested for growing drugs, the none medicinal kind. Luckily he is only 16 so he didn't get floated just locked up. And of course I tried to break him out, and that's how I got a cell opposite him in the skybox.
Me and Jasper have a lot in common, the fact we were twins meant we looked alike; we had the same soft hazel eyes, and raggedy dark brown hair, he kept his hair patted down with the goggles he always wore, where as my hair is a lot longer so it falls in to out of place waves on my back. I share his enthusiasm of chemistry, but I also had my own thing which was art. Ever since I could I was drawing, I was never seen without a pencil in my hair and a sketch book in my pocket; both of which can be very hard to come by on the ark but somehow, Jasper always made sure I always had a blank page ready.
Everything changed in the year 1249. "ELIZABETH" his shout woke me from my sleep. "Jasper?!" I jumped out of bed, my eyes trying to focus on the scene in front of me. Everyone was being dragged from their cells, including Jasper. Before I could react, the door to my cell was being opened. "What going on? Where's my brother?!"I demanded. Without saying anything they just stormed in to my room, grabbed me by my arms and rolled up my sleeve. "Hey get off of me! JASPER!"
The next thing I knew I was being strapped in to a drop ship. I looked around in confusion; all around me was the other child offenders getting strapped in just like me. I started to worry, when I saw someone waving in the corner of my eye. Relief washed over me when I saw Jasper and Monty smile over to me, I could see the slight worry and curiosity in their eyes just like the rest of the 100 of us.
It was a bumpy ride to the ground, so much so we lost two people. As soon as the buckles were released, Jasper had his arms around me, with Monty following not far behind. I never thought I would miss a hug so much; when Monty was close enough I wrapped my free arm around him in a group hug. "Are you ok?" Jasper asked, his eyes glistening from excitement. "I'm fine" I grinned, "is this really happening?" The situation felt like an amazing dream I was scared to wake up from. All of a sudden everyone started scrambling for the ladder to the lower level and I found myself being dragged in to the crowd with Jasper and Monty.
None of us could have ever imagined what it would feel like. All my life I have watched the planets and stars pass by as we floated aimlessly in space, yet I could never have imagined the warmth, the happiness that washed over me as the sun's rays hit my skin. It took a moment for me to catch my breath; going from artificial air to the real deal was like a baby taking its first breath. Everything felt so peaceful, all was right with the world; humans were finally back where they belong. Then the air was filled with cheers including mine.
