Here is my new story! My first story! It stars Remus and my OC. He and Tonks are all wrong for each other. But hey, to each his own. Give it a shot and review! So now, without further ado...
Disclaimer: I obviously own nothing.
"Remus, my boy, thank you for coming on such short notice. Please, please, have a seat." Dumbledore was waiting in his office at Hogwarts. At his guest's interest, he stood to the side and motioned with one arm towards his massive, ornate desk and the cushioned chairs sitting before it. As Remus settled himself in the one of the chairs, Dumbledore sat down behind the desk and offered the man a sweet. Remus, having declined, watched Dumbledore root through the candies for several moments. "I do believe I will soon need to replenish my stock of Lemonheads." He found the sour candy he was searching for and popped it in his mouth, rolling it around with his tongue a few times. Remus shifted in his seat. "Ah yes, Remus, I'm sure you are curious as to why I've asked you here at such an hour."
"Yes, sir, I am rather curious."
"I am about to ask too much of you, I suppose," Dumbledore looked thoughtful for a moment as he rolled the candy to the other side of his mouth. " However, I fear that only you have the best chances of success. I'd like to charge you with a task, my boy."
"Anything to help The Order, sir."
"Ah yes, your dedication to the cause is admirable. However, this task is not directly related to our operations. I need your expertise and skill in escorting someone to the border. To safety."
"Escorting? Why not use magic? Surely it would be faster and safer to apparate or floo?"
"You are aware of our precarious position with the ministry, I presume." Remus nodded. "This someone, is a muggle. The ministry has been keeping strict tabs on magical transportation. There must be no using magical transportation by the muggle. Otherwise, we will be attracting the ministry's and Voldemort's attention."
"Sir, please don't mistake my question for callousness, but what is the significance of this muggle? Why get involved? Surely there are more pressing concerns than the safe passage of one muggle?"
"Consider this a personal favor to me, then." After Remus's nod of acquiescence, Dumbledore began to explain. "I was acquainted with this someone's grandmother, a squib who villagers believed to practice witchcraft. She was just very gifted with medicinal herbs and poultices. I was injured during the fight with Grindelwald. She found me and it is thanks to her that Grindelwald was defeated. I have owed her a life debt and until now, have been unable to pay it. I ask you to help me fulfill this debt."
"Alright, I will help you."
"Thank you. I knew you wouldn't let me down. I know you are aware of the dangers that lurk in the dark forest..." Remus nodded. "I must ask you to provide utmost protection. Be mindful of your surroundings and of the forest dwellers." Dumbledore looked over his spectacles at Remus who was trying to catch the meaning of the headmaster's words. "Now, are you ready to meet our muggle?" He clapped his hands and sat up in his chair. "Edeline, my dear! Come out here please!"
Remus heard a door slide open behind him and turned his head to see who was entering. He scrambled to his feet, ever the polite gentleman.
"Remus John Lupin, I'd like to present your charge, Edeline Lulu Keaton."
