Title: A Wish, A Bird, A Tear
Prompt: tired of getting teased and getting pushed around
Seven year old Daine sat in front of a tree. The other kids were behind her, ignoring her as usual. Sometimes she wished that they would just talk to her, let her prove that she was worth it. Then they opened their mouths and she would wish with all her might that they would just leave her alone.
Then she got lonely.
"You won't call me names, will you?" Daine whispered to a bird that sat perched on her little hand.
"No, no little miss. You're a right, fine little fletchling. I imagine you'll grow up and soar through the skies one day," the bird said happily.
"Oh I hope so," Daine said with a giant sigh.
"Look! She's talking to the birds again! What a freak!" a boy shouted from behind her.
"Guess if she had a father she might be normal!"
Ignore them Daine. Just forget about them, she thought to herself.
It didn't help, the jeers caught hold of her mind and wouldn't let go. With every word they spoke the pain just got worse and worse. They started laughing when she turned to face them and they saw the tears that were running down her face.
"Yeah, freak!"
"Stop it!" Daine shouted.
"Oh look, she dares to face us. Forgotten the last time you pretended to be normal?"
Daine stared at the group of children, their mocking eyes stared back.
"Just leave me alone," she said, the tears falling faster and harder than before, clouding her vision.
