Life's a song

Sequel to Lily Crash

"You know when you said the past, I was thinking 2050's, heck anything in the 21st century. But this... this is takin' it a little far isn't it?" Lily asked the Doctor.

"You said you wanted the past."

"I didn't know you'd be taking me this far back."

"This isn't that far back if you really think about it. I mean this is almost four billion years after the planet was formed. This is about seven billion years after..."

"Okay, okay, I get it. Not that far in the past. But still, it's all just... trees. Trees!"

"Isn't it marvellous?"

"And bugs!" Lily swatted at the many bugs that had surrounded her. They were deep in a forest in North America.

"Amazing creatures, bugs are. They even outlive you. They continue on to rule the planet after you all die out or move on. Though, they do get consumed by the sun, but none the less, amazing."

"Do you hear that?"

"Hear what?"

"The drums?"

"Now that you mention it..." They continued through the forest, picking up speed as they went. They peaked through the bushes at a ceremony.

"Oh, those are Native Americans! I read about them on the internet. Heard they were savages. I don't really think so though. I think they were just pissed 'cos we took their land and scared them." Lily watched, amazed. Their singing and drums were soothing to her.

"Want to meet the locals?"

"Could we really?"

"It's a bit early for them to see people like us, but yeah."

"Oh you rock!" They waited until the singing was finished and they walked up to the people.

"Erm, Hello. I'm, um, Lily and this is the Doctor," Lily said, unsure if they would understand her. She thrust her hand out for the man to shake.

The man she was speaking to seemed unsure what to make of Lily, the Doctor and Lily's hand. "My name is Batiscan. I am the chief of the Algonkin peoples."

Lily withdrew her hand. "It's nice to meet you."

"Are you a spy from the Iroquois?" His voice filled with venom.

"No, we come from the land across the sea, the United Kingdom. Well, she does at least." The Doctor managed to say quickly.

"Then where are you from?" Batiscan asked.

"Oh, I'm from a long way away, Beyond the stars you could say."

"Then you are the one legend speaks of?"

"Which legend, I am centre of alot."

"Modest much?" Lily whispered.

"The legends of the man with hair like the sun, eyes like the cool grey waters, and powers one can only dream of. The legends of the man who will bring wars and troubles in his wake. The man with the power to end this silly fur war, brought on by the men with skin of white."

"And who speaks these legends?"

"The elders, the Soothsayers."

"Soothsayers?"

"The chosen few the spirits choose to allow to see that which we cannot."

"Oh like psychics?" Lily asked the Doctor.

"Something like that," the Doctor replied. "So basically I bring the war and I end it?"

"Sounds like you."

"That is what they say."

"Could you take us to meet one of the Soothsayers?"

"Of course, follow me."

"Doctor?"

"Yeah?"

"How are they speaking English. Isn't it a bit early for them to know it?"

"That's just the TARDIS. She sort of gets in your brain and translates it."

"So, when you're hearing this, do you hear it in English or do you hear it in... whatever language you spoke on you planet?"

"I hear it in Galifreyian, yes."

"So are you speaking Galifreyians now?"

"No, I'm speaking English."

"Then how do you know English?"

"I know all the languages."

"Wierd."
