While You Were Out

(Jimmy's POV)

"Are you sure you've got everything you need?" I said to my girfriend, Cindy. She was leaving our apartment we shared in Austin, TX to visit her parents for the weekend. It was spring break from the college we went to together,(we had almost the same classes) and she wanted to check up on things in Retroville. I had told her I couldn't go because I had a experiment I was watching that weekend, but I had other plans too...

"Yep. I've got it all. I'll see you Sunday night." she said, pecking a quick kiss on my cheek. She closed the door, and I heard the crunching of gravel as she walked towards the car. From the window, I saw our blue hovercar take off from the ground, with the licence plate reading: GOCWBYS (Go Cowboys). Everyone had a hovercar now, thanks to myself, but I turned down most of the money they gave me. And the money I did take, I used it to pay mine and Cindy's tuitions. That made her, and her parents, really happy. But I was going to do something that would make her, hopfully, more happy.

I'd been tinkering with jewelry making for a year, and I thought it was time to see if I could make something special...

I went downstairs to my, sorry, OUR lab. With a sigh, and smile on my face, I got to work. I didn't sleep all that well that weekend, but that was because I was obsessed to make it perfect than to actually tend to myself. Finally, on Sunday afternoon, it was finished. I put it in a safe place on my person, and laid down on the sofa to wait for her return.

I was woken up by the sound of the hovercar landing. I ran to the window to see Cindy getting out with her suitcase in her hand. I bent to one knee in front of the door, and took out the little box I had put it in. And I stared at the door until it finally opened...

Cindy, for a split second, looked confused. Then, she dropped her suitcase and screamed with such girlish intensity, I cringed alittle. When she was done, I said
"Um...Cindy, I love you with all my heart, and I want to try life's greatest experiment with you. I think we can last forever, even when our particles are floating in space. So, um...will you marry me?" I didn't have to wait for an answer. Cindy screamed again as she ran in the doorway, pulled me up into a hug, and said, "Yes! Yes! Yes! Of course I'll marry you, but on one condition."

"What's that?" I said, alittle afraid. She smiled, and said, "You ask Carl to be the best man, not Sheen." I laughed, and said, "Deal." I took out the ring I had been working on all that weekend, gold with a special pearl as the center-cut stone, and slipped it on her finger. And then, we shared probably the most passionate kiss we had ever had. Not even the wedding kiss came close to that wonderful moment.
