This story is inspired and inculdes the song 'The Fool' by Lee Ann Womack. This song describes how I think Kagome feels about how Inuyasha is still hung up oer Kikyo. Enjoy. All disclaimers are at the end of the story.
29-year-old Kagome Higurashi walks towards a small café at the end of the block. She opens the door and walks towards the only table available. There is already someone sitting there: Kikyo Mitsushita.
"You don't know me, but I know who you are. Mind if I sit down?"
"No, I don't mind," Kikyo says as she moves her purse and allows Kagome to sit down. Kagome gives her a grateful, shaky smile and sat down. Taking a deep breath, Kagome begins a conversation with her boyfriend's former girlfriend.
"Do I look familiar? If I don't, well I should. I'm sure you've seen me around."
"Maybe," Kikyo says with a shrug, her head resting on top of her clasped fingers, "but Tokyo's a big city." Kagome nods and looks down at the hard wood table.
"I know you've probably heard my name, though we've not been introduced."
"Alright then, who are you?" Kikyo asks as she watches the other girl fidget in her sit. "Something wrong?" Kagome shakes her head no and leans on the table, her head in her hand.
"I'm the fool in love with the fool who's still in love with you."
"Oh. You must be Kagome, right? Inuyasha's new girlfriend. So, he's still hung up over me, huh?" It's a valid question, Kikyo thought, I have a right to know if Inuyasha still truly loves me. Kagome nods as she waves over a waitress.
"If you've got a minute I'll buy you a drink. I've got something to say."
"Okay, let me hear it," Kikyo replied as they ordered their drinks: a mug of coffee for Kikyo and jasmine tea for Kagome. The look on Kagome's face was troubled, so Kikyo braced herself for the worst.
"It might sound crazy, but last night in his sleep, I heard him call out your name. This ain't the first time; he's done it before, and it's hard to face the truth: I'm the fool in love with the fool who's still in love with you."
"Poor you. It must kill you to know he's never going to truly love you." It came out harsher than Kikyo had intended and Kagome grasps the mug in her hands as she looks down at it. Kikyo can see a single tear roll down poor Kagome's face.
"I know love is a fragile thing and I'm trying hard to make it last. But it ain't easy holding on to my dream when he's holding on to the past."
"Yes, that would prose a problem," Kikyo says with a trace of sadness in her voice. "You really love him don't you?" Another tear escapes Kagome's coco brown eyes as she nods. Inuyasha, you idiot. Why do you have to be such an ass? Why can't you see that someone else really honestly loves you? Why stay hung up over me? Kagome must have noticed the sadness in Kikyo's voice and took it the wrong way, because she says,
"Just one more thing before I go, I'm not here to put you down. You don't love him and that's a fact. Girl I've seen you around. But you hold his heart in the palm of your hand and it's breaking mine in two. 'Cause I'm the fool in love with the fool who's still in love with you"
Kikyo opens her mouth to tell Kagome that she isn't offended, but Kagome has already stood up and bows honorifically. Wordlessly, Kagome turns and leaves. Kagome only looks back once, and whispers, as a lone tear falls down her cheek.
"I'm the fool in love with the fool who's still in love with you."
And with that, Kagome vanished into the crowded streets and was never seen again. Kikyo, however, would never forget Kagome's final conversation with her.
Everything Kagome says is from the song 'The Fool' by Lee Ann Womack. Which I don't own. Neither do I own Inuyasha.
