No one's P.O.V.
It was raining in the abandoned city as Colonel Roy Mustang and Lieutenant Riza Hawkeye ran through it, searching for yet another deadly, rogue alchemist. As the Colonel missed another shot at their target, Riza thought, He seems a bit more useless than usual. Taking it upon herself to fight for the two of them, the Lieutenant pulled out her own pistol and fired two shots at the person running into a building. The two soldiers ducked behind an old car as smoke quickly pooled out of the building and engulfed the air around them. They heard gunshots coming from their target, but none of them hit anywhere close to the two. The Colonel and his lieutenant ran into the smoky building. The polluted air quickly filled their lungs, causing the soldiers to go into violent coughing fits. Black smoke burned their eyes as they made their way through the first floor. A silver glint caught Roy's eye, and he flung himself in front of his lieutenant. A gunshot was heard, and Roy slammed backwards into Riza. On instinct, she lifted her own gun and shot at the other gunman. The loud thud heard through the pouring rain confirmed Riza's thought that she hit her target. She dropped her gun and focused her attention on the other soldier. "Colonel!" she shouted as she tried to see where he was shot. Finding that that was useless, she felt around his chest and head for blood. Horrified, she felt blood pooling right above his heart. She pulled out a small, square black box and slammed her hand on the button. "Don't worry, Colonel, help is coming. Just hold on." She pressed her hand over the wound and tried to apply pressure as gently as she could. Without a source, the smoke was clearing up quickly. Roy peered up at the other soldier and smiled softly. "No, Lieutenant. They won't come in time." Panic struck her across her face as Riza thought of the possibility. "Don't say that, sir! Of course they're coming. They would never leave their Flame Alchemist behind." He shook his head, then grimaced, "No one's coming, Riza. We're too far out. They wouldn't make it in time." Riza refused to believe what he had said. But she knew he was right; he even used her first name. "No, Colonel, just hold on. They'll make it." But with each word, she felt more and more doubtful. When Roy looked up at her, she could see the light fading from his eyes. "Sorry, Riza." He shut his eyes just as she started to scream. "NO! ROY! Dammit, Roy! Don't you dare die on me! Roy! ROY!" His heart stopped beating. She frantically tried giving him chest compressions, but it wasn't working. Sobbing, the lieutenant hugged her commanding officer to her chest. Out of the corner of her eye, Riza saw a silver glint. "Don't go where I can't follow," she muttered and she put her gun up to her head.
It was hours before help came. But even so, everyone who showed up could still feel the ringing of a single gunshot ricocheting throughout the building.
I am self-destructive. Oh well. I didn't need my heart anyway.
